It would be really nice to be to label certain IPs that we know belong to a certain person with a name. That way instead of the IP showing, it would say "Rose" (or whatever you typed in). I've seen this in other programs and thought it worked well.
I love StatCounter though! Thanks so much!

What happened last time someone suggested it?
I'm forever surrounded by post-it notes with IP addresses and names scrawled on, "mum", "mum at home" "me" "me at work" "me on firefox" etc.
This feature would be great _________________ Blog at www.manc_ill_kid.blogspot.com

I thought this was suggested before - but i agree this is a nice feature with very little overhead.
Adding it to the stickies. |

I've just emailed someone at statcounter about this and they told me to post the idea here.
So since it's already here, I'll just add a vote for it to be implemented!
Cheers. |

Yes, yes we will be adding this feature
Keep posting to this thread if you want it. Helps us judge demand and what is the next biggest priority to add. |

| Yes, this would be a great feature. Click on the user IP and assign it a name. |

It would be a wonderful addition as it would also make great business sense to do this - Here are two of the main benefits:-
-Easier to identify click fraudsters and other fraudsters
-See which competitor has visited your site
Actually I have noticed some of my larger competitors have there name in the IP address so i can spy on them but others i have to remember so tagging the ips with a name would make things a lot easier. _________________ visit my UK gadget shop online www.gizagizmo.com ........ Please make this a priority item to work on!!! I swear I account for 2% of 3M's yearly income from all the post-it notes I have with peoples IP addresses on them. I even have an excel matrix to try to log them but I have to keep both windows open to tell who the person is. I even made my users register via form submit and put the IP as a require field.
Please Please Please make this happen! |

| I agree! This would help me so, so much. It would be a lot easier to just be able to read the name of the people who check my site! |

Just replying to hopefully encourage you guys to add this feature and perhaps take it one step further?
This isn't the first counter/visitor log I've used and most of the previous ones provided me with all of the following:
-If the visitor was a xanga member, I guess their IP was registered somewhere because the past trackers were capable of providing the xanga user's name.
-The referrering link
I realize that xanga is a special case, that there are limits that make xanga less compatible with your counter. I just wanted you to know that I've seen it given to me for free, so it must be possible.
I hope this reply doesn't sound degrading because I truly believe that this is one of the best services I've ever seen offered on the internet for free. I commend you guys for making your user interface so clear, your site so ad-free, and your counter so customizable.
Keep up the good work |

I too agree and think that assigning a name to IP addressess would be a REALLY big help. Hope this gets implemented soon!

| Would love this too. But where will that name be stored? Locally as a cookie? We need to know if there are any privacy issues (would the name be stored elsewhere) or time-issues like having to take care not to delete a certain cookie. Thanks in advance for any feedback. |
