Yahoo!'s annual awards for the most interesting and innovative websites of the year
http://uk.promotions.yahoo.com/finds2006/
i dont get it, i looked at the shopping sites expecting to be impressed and they were just average, mediocre sites
i just had an idea lets have a statscounter website awards, winner can put banner on their site '2006 statscounter award,' actually we can have a different catergory for every entry that way every body will win. okay i need to shut up now

Count me in, but how do we persuade Sharron to design the banner?

Not only questionable, but the winner of the people's choice award doesn't WORK in FF2.0. The site's nothing but menus, and content doesn't display.
The UK Yahoo! team is apparently a bunch of amateurs.

We need two of those, Best Banner Designer Award and Web Site With Best Banner Award.
There can be no doubt that I will win one of those :-D

Weird & Wonderful Find of the Year 2006: Trolley Spotting
It's just a site with maps showing where the guy spotted abandoned shopping trolleys!

lol, well I'd love to do something. But don't you think we would need Statcounters blessing and support to hold such a event?
I've in if they are. hmmmmmmmmmmm does that mean we have to excluded all statcounter users from participation? That would exclude a load of folks.

I think you missed the point Sharron.
We have a catagory for each stacounter forum users web site, that way we all win and can display the banner on our web sites.
Best games Site Award
best model plane site award
Best Glassinsparations site award
get the picture?

Good thinking Neil
Nominations for the best game site and best jigsaw site are now closed, as are nominations for all other catagories, including the ones we haven't thought of yet. :)

But I am sure they have purchased a lot of the add-ons that Yahoo offers . . . That alone will qualify them for the awards.:-D (me and my sour grapes)

Yes, we all expect something extra special. But thats one of the points to be gleaned:
Your site can be as good
Super sites don't necessarily work
All the sites had an EXCELLENT intro paragraph
Content rules over tech crap and wank
I saw only one case of self indulgent W3C buttons
See a product and you see the price and have a thing to tick or click to buy
Navigation on every page so wherever you are you can get wherever else.
Property law for the internet: Niche Niche Niche
Great banners
Good quality photos. No pixilation
No advertising, ad words, google ads etc
Good "About" pages where website owners use their real name and give something of themselves.
an instant trustworthiness that must come from a blend of all the points. What I was not impressed with:
Still 'tram tracks': blank empty spaces on the left and right of pages
Photos didn't expand to big Bigger and HUGE!!! I want to see the product up close.Best website intro paragraph: "You can help save a dog's life by registering your pet as a potential blood donor today!" 17 words and I know exactly what the site is about, if I am going to be interested in staying, what I have to do, and there is an honesty and integrity in those words that means I am ready and willing to pay. The tag line "Remember, dogs can be heroes too!" just makes me want to cry. http://www.dogblooddonors.com/
So with all that one of the worst sites IMHO was one of the winners! http://www.cowforce.com/ oh so tricky... but I dont know what its about.

all excellent points but i expect them as minimum standards for any shopping site and there are millions which are equally as good, mine i hope included.
to win an award from such a large company as yahoo i would expect something revolutionary, i wanted wow factor

I wonder if revenue generating capability or traffic popularity or page ranking was factored in. I imagine that an award winning site would have a high volume of sales or traffic . . .
Just a thought . . .
