CIn my opinion, StatCounter comes very very close to the top of the "Best Freeware" ever list..

"Active Guestbook" is another product I rate really highly.

What do you rate as highly as "StatCounter"?

I've never used StatCounter before - the new version will be my first experience of the program - but it certainly sounds like a tremendous service.

My favorite freeware/free service thus far has come from the good guys at Elated.com - specifically, their web templates (http://www.elated.com/pagekits/). Very professional and stylish.

Im always wary of freeware when it comes to webby stuff for your site. But I like their dedication proclamation to keeping it free. I really enjoy the service so far, I love the flags.

I can see this service hitting the roof and everyone getting a counter, it's only a matter of time. I was one of the very first member's of freeinvisiblecounter.com, which now boasts a huge following and mungo slow load on ones page during the GMT day. Plus user's of my site enjoy stat's bake rather than freeinvisi's.

I found them via a google search, I just dread the day it takes my page longer to load the counter than my blogroll, I hope that doesn't happen, but after all, it is free. Sooner or later I'm going to have to shell out some cash for all the goodies I collect, and if that's the case a good counter with relevant information and sweet baking is needed. I'd buy stat counter, but for now... thanks for making it free. 8)

I'm glad you like the service.

We've redesigned the architecture from the ground up to ensure that your counters are always kept loading in an instant. At the moment they are loading in 4 - 10 milliseconds which is rather impressive.

We'll easily be able to keep your counters loading in instant into the future, no matter how popular the service gets, but we're going to need more dedicated servers. So we'll be going after more members, more advertising dollars and more paying members.

As you no doubt can tell, its a fab counter, I love the breakdown, also very accurate.

I'll just consider this a trialware prog, like PSP. If I like after 31 days, I'll be more than happy to pay.

So far so good.
