I have just re-registered as requested by the email and I notice that the new code didn't seem to offer the choice of an 'invisible' counter..
As my website involves artwork I am certainly not going to use an object on any of my pages that may or may not blend in with the existing color scheme ( it doesn't ).
Have I missed something..?
login into your account > installation & configuration > configure counter

Dude.. I don't think it's as easy as that.. I've configured it to invisible but the website is still showing the counter. I've even set up a new account that seems to generate the old code (pre-'spam' email code)...

..not only that, but a r/click on the counter shows anyone who clicks on it all my statistics! This is not as the configuration.
what exactly are you talking about?
I visited your website http://homepage.ntlworld.com/chart-o-rama/ and it's invisible.
We don't do the whole "click this button to get your stats" that other counter services do.
If you want to disable public stats
login to your account > project access > untick the public stats box and hit submit

I tried it on a test page: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/chart-o-rama/QuickPost.htm
Public Stats is already unticked
You're using another tracking service on your test page but you're posting on the StatCounter bug forum?

Wow. Please excuse me. I recieved an email this morning from this other Counter and naturally assumed it was from you as you are the only Counter I use and intend to use.
The email said that there had been a large spam attack at their place and we had to update our code accordingly, which I did and was testing...
I can only assume that it is from one of the half-dozen or so Counters I tried out two or three months ago before I discovered yours!!
Please, accept my apologies, and thank you very much for the Alert!
..am going now to re-alter the code back to StatCounter.
Pheewww...
