Hi everyone!
It's all looking VERY good!
Any idea when the "Country" stats will be up and running again - I miss that fascinating little feature :)
Thanks

Hello,
First let me say how much I LOVE your service. I am the webmaster for www.ussarizona.com and we have been using your servce since July 26.
I hope you bring back the country statistics soon. Those are so important to us. Secondly, will the country statistics again only show the last 100 visitors? I also use extreme tracking and they keep a log of country stats that is permanent. This means I can keep track of what countries are visiting for the life of the service. I hope you will consider something like that.
I do have one complaint. When the change took place, I was not aware of it and as such, because the code changed, I lost stats for almost 2 weeks! I had to replace the code on over 300 pages so that I have the stats for the entire site. I hope that if you make changes in the future you will take this into consideration so that either the code won't need to be updated, or that we are notified well in advance so that the appropriate code changes can be made on the site. Preferably changes could be made without a change of the code?
Another question, how do I make the stats viewable for the general public again? Has that been changed?
Lastly, we are a non-profit website and as such, cannot afford $19 per month, more than the cost of our hosting, to upgrade to 1000. I saw that you are considering $2 per month. That is much more reasonable. Will you offer more than 1000?
Thank you so much for your service. I know you have probably spent many long hours struggling with programs to bring this service to the public and I am grateful for what you are doing.

the country stats, will still be based on the last 100. But better than than, you will will also be able to see the last 100 cities once we get all the new features in.
Of course better than all that, you'll be able to drill down on a particular country or city to see how that particular section of your visitors use your website.
For public stats login to your account and click project access.
The old code would have still worked fine for all javascript enabled users, as 99% of users are javascript enabled we weren't sure whether it was really necessary to annoy everyone into changing their code. If they felt they weren't getting the stats they were getting before you could upgrade it in your own time.
We are looking to offer something at the $2 a month, $19 a year threshold. The margins are tight, I don't think we could offer more than a log quota of 1,000 for such a small fee, but i'm using a log quota of 500 at the moment on StatCounter website and it makes a HUGE difference.

Hi again,
I understand what you are saying, but it still posses a problem. When the country stats were up, I enjoyed them a great deal, but it was not a complete count. Everytime a new person comes to the site, the last one is dropped. So, for instance, let's say someone from Australia visits the site, that is logged into the country stats. But since our site is mainly visited by the US at an an average of a new hit every 5 minutes, Australia can drop from the country list before I ever see they were there. So, unless I monitor my stats every 15 minutes, I would miss them. Even if I upgraded to the 1000 log I would have to check every few hours every day to monitor the stats.
When you first log in to My Projects, there is a nice bar there that includes Project Name, Project Type, Lifetime Count, Hit Usage, Log Size and Log Usage. Hit Usage says for the last month. That is a very helpful stat.
Is it possible to let the log hold the country stats at least for the day rather than every 100 hits? Then a person would only have to check in once a day to find out the country count.
Currently I am using Extreme as a back up service. They hold the country count for a lifetime, so it's just a matter of doing the math to find out the totals for a day. Unfortunately, their service for some reason doesn't count reliably which I found out while monitoring my stats here yesterday.
Your service is much more reliable, but some of us really need an accurate country count each day, week or month, whatever can be provided. It's just impossible to be able to monitor the site often enough to catch those fleeting visitors in the country stat when it changes constantly.
Is it possible to implement something where they don't get lost every few minutes and make it available for, if nothing else, the day? Weekly would be better. There are many stat services out there that do offer this type of tracking on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. I have chosen your service because of the better visitor information. There are many elements that you have such as popular page that are quite informative, but again, those change constantly. Would be nice if that too had some way of "sticking" for at least a full daily count.
Or maybe a way to email a count? In a report or something?
The lifetime and montly hit count are available almost anywhere you can get a counter. Many of your other services are far superior to other tracking services, but the downside is the lack of those reports being available for more than a few minutes as the visitors keep coming in. This makes it impossible to get a clear picture of what the site is doing and who is visiting, where they are coming from, etc impossible to acheive unless a person were to do what I did yesterday.
Dec 7 for our site was an important day. Because of the, our Association need accurate stats for the entire day. To accomplish this, I actually had to sit in front of my computer from midnight to midnight and cut and past the stats as they changed, then from that compile a report for the Association. With this in mind, I hope you will consider finding away to make these great services you provide available for more than the life of the log size.
I am sure that people would be willing to pay a little more for stats that are available in some sort of report for at least a daily basis. I know we would. But even upgrading to 1000 would not solve the problem as then when hits go over 1000 stats would still be lost. This means constant monitoring and for most people that is not possible from a time point of view. Really, right now, most of these stats are simply "snapshots" of what the site is doing rather than a full accurate count for a day, week or month.
I know that server load is a consideration, which is why I suggest daily stats. At least that gives people a chance to check in and find a total for a given day, on the following day. Sort of "Yesterday's Totals" kind of thing - unique visitors, page hits, where they came from, country etc. All in one nice neat package for the entire day.
I know it's a lot to ask, but when you look at your competition out there, there are places that provide this, some free of charge like Extreme. I chose yours after trying many because they are more indebth, but that doesn't help if the stats keep changing and there are no complete totals for these more indebth stats.
Just like what you propose for the country stats. It's very nice that we will be able to drill down to the state and city.... but what good is that if it's not something that can be looked at unless a person sits on the computer and monitors those stats 24/7?
I hope that during your development stage, you will take some of this into consideration.
Thanks.
You just need to increase the log size for your project.
We'll have many different options for this in the future, and you'll be able to increase it far beyond 1,000 to 100,000 and more.
This won't be available till next year though.

Any idea how far into next year and what sort of pricing? I know you have mentioned offering 1000 for around $2 in the future... so I can assume that 100,000 won't put a huge dent in the budget for non-profits like us?
Maybe you could offer discounted rate to those people willing to run a banner ad or small ad by the counter?
Our site is 100% ad free because the Association is worried about "endorsing" products. This hurts our budget but for a discounted rate for a necessary and superior service, a comprimise to the "ad free" policy could be made.
Thanks...

The hold up will be setting up an industrial strength billing system for international billing. There's a lot of legal requirements that we have to adhere to for this.

We don't like the idea of that at all. It's your website we don't want to impact on it, unless to make it better. We don't put ads on your website.
I'm sure we can offer non-profit organisations a good deal. These prices aren't final yet at all, but based on the costs we could offer a log quota of 100,000 for about $19 a month - but with that you'll be getting even more advanced stats, as well as an increased log quota.
There will be other options with different prices as well.

Hi again,
I went to the user access element and checked to enable public stats. Do I have to put in the url it lists? In the past all anyone had to do was click on the counter to go to the stats. Do I actually have to put a separate link now? I tried clicking on the counter but it simply goes to statcounter.com still.
Thanks
You need a seperate link yes.
