View Full Version : More confusion

I learnt very rapidly that the statcounter uses the titles in the head code as identifiers, so I duly went through all 84 pages of the website and gave them individual titles so the stats would be easier to read.

On the face of things, it looks as though I've missed one page as almost every day, there is one entry on the "popular" page showing a few hits, but no page title. Is there any quick way of identifying this page? (I suspect the answer is no, but I thought I'd ask anyway!) What seems very strange however is that, when I checked 10 minutes ago the blank page had had 3 hits. When I refreshed the page 5 minutes later, it had only had 2. I've just gone back again and it's down to 1. What's happening? The numbers are supposed to go up not down!!

(I promise I'm not seeing things, and not a drop of alcohol has passed my lips all day!)

I don't know of a "fast" way but if you have your website organized on your computer as a series of folders for different sections all in a "big" folder with the index page you should be able to go through them systematically so while this is not fast it should ensure that you don't miss the page again.

As far as why the count is going down? I don't know, sorry.

On another note if your website isn't organized in some fashion for uploading purposes you might want to consider doing this before your site gets even bigger. Just my .02 cents

One thing I have noticed with the Popular page list is that the same pages don't just show up the once, often it will be listed 3 or 4 times, each time showing a different number of hits. I have to add them together to find out which one is really the most popular.

Perhaps the webmaster could explain why this happens?

We'll be adding more sorting features to the popular stats - it depends whether you group them based on the page title or page url, or a chopped url.

If a user has javascript disabled then the page will come up as blank ... so perhaps we should just not include non-javascript users in the popular stats.

Webmoriar,

Yes, the website is very organised. Looks like I'll just have to try to single out the page by a process of elimination.

Webmaster

If I've managed to disable the java script on any page, it's certainly been by accident!

The only page I've noticed showing up twice is my home page as visitors can get there either from www.catsup.co.uk or from www.catsup.co.uk/index.htm

I meant some of your users will have javascript disabled.

Oops! There's my ignorance showing again. Except for the numbers going down rather than up, it certainly makes more sense that way round!
