Put the stat counter code at the end of the page, otherwise (as I have just found out) Google will give your page description as "Free Web Counter..."

Depends on the website - google changes the description that is displayed depending on the keywords used in the search.

If you have very little text content on your webpage then I would highly recommend you place the counter code at the bottom of your webpage - just before the </body>

If you have a lot of text content, then it really doesn't matter.

Ahh. I did a backward link search on my google tool bar, so there were no search words as such.
