Just began with Statcounter. Very happy with it. What a service!....Now, there seems to be some discrepancy between the count I'm getting from Statcounter and the very simple count from the old counter on my site. Let me give a rough idea, nothing exact. As I see it, for the last two days, I've had about four times the number of visitors(according to Statcounter) that the old counter credits me with. I asked host about this. His reply.

<This is because we only count when someone first enters your page. If they click around to different dates, it doesn't advance the counter.>

I replied that Statcounter's figures for Unique visitors, Page Load and First Time visitors is still four or five times the number which old counter gives for 'someone first entering my page.'

I'm confused. But I always knew that the meaning of 'hits' is not as simple as it might seem.

unique visitors are based on cookies and will never be 100% accurate.

pageloads are extremely, extremely accurate.

TypePad provided me with a very scant stats page. Last night they showed activity on my page between 11PM and 5AM (US Pacific Standard Time) and statcounter did not.

Any ideas?

you have the StatCounter code inserted after your </body> tag, not before it. if the StatCounter code loads, then your visitor gets tracked. it's as simple as that, and StatCounter is very accurate.
