Why does the referring link appear to be my own home page? It does not show the page where the visitor came from.

I am assuming you are getting "No Referring Link"? If so then it could either be a link in their favorites or they are just typing it into their browser address window.

I'm not getting "No referring link", there is a referring link and it's always my own homepage :(

I logged into your account and look at the came from data. There was only one entry listed and it was for

http://www.google.fi/search?q=alakarppi&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=fi&btnG=Google-haku&lr=

The rest are referring links from the pages within your site. People being on one page and then clicking on another. That referrer gets recorded as well even if it is internal.

I'm getting the same thing, the majority of my 'referred from' links are my own home page. I have a home page and a store - does this mean that if someone clicked on a link elsewhere which takes them to the home page, when they enter the store it is the home page that is recorded so I don't find out where they originally came from??? - hope this is making sense ... and is there anything I can do to change this?

Woollybacks,

Scroll to the bottom of the referrals page and tick the box which allows you only to see external links.

I clicked on the link to your website at approximately 12.30 GMT today (13th Feb) and entered on your home page. Look for the referral from statcounter, drill down, click on magnify and you'll see I visited a number of pages. In other words, the drill down/magnify feature will show you the "path" I took through your website. If you don't set the external links only function, this "path" will also appear in the form of internal links on the referrals page itself.

Thanks Anne :) I've sorted that now ... I think - will see how my stats look over the next few days.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I still don't have any referring links... well, one... but I know for a fact that visitors are coming to my page using links in other web pages.

I did see referring links before I started using statcounter with another web tracker. I tried switching to that other again, but it did the same things - the only referring link was my own web page..

Maybe I should give up :(

I have the same problem and I think it's because I've put the counter in the left frame and every referral is my home page - can you shed some light on this - also if I put an invisible counter on the rest of the pages will that solve my problem?

The code looks ok, try running your site through an HTML Validator and then regenerate and replace the statcounter code. It could be that some of the HTML errors are preventing it from working.

On your first page (www.woollybacks.co.uk) there is no statcounter code, when I click through you only have statcounter code in the frame, not in the actual content part of the page. The tracking code should be generated with the "Frames" option checked and placed between the <body> </body> tags. That is the problem there. Also unless you have tracking code on your mainpage (the one linked above) all links will show as coming from their to people that click through to where you presently have the code.

Same as with Jenni you need to generate the code for frames and place it within the <body> </body> tags not the <frameset> tags.

Thanks for the advice - I think I've put the code on my first page now - could you check for me?

I can't seem to get the code between the <body> </body> tags on the other pages though!?!? When I paste it in the "html markup box" then click source to view on my site all that is between the <body> tags is <body>

This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them.</p></body>

Help!

I see the code on the first page that look good.

What browser are you using?

Thaks for the advise. The problem is that I'm using EasyWebEditor and it doesn't allow me to change the html.

Maybe there is an error because of the frame I'm using. Maybe removing the frame would solve this problem... but then I should redo my pages again

Anyway, thank you for your time and advise!

Thanks for looking at it :) I'm using a Mac with IE and just tried it with iCab too and got that same message about 'browser not supporting frames'.

I'm getting the info. on where people are coming from now though - that's the home page bit sorted - it's just that I haven't been able to put the code on the other pages - what info. will I be losing?

It's a great statcounter btw just some teething problems from me :)
