I have just upgraded to Broadband :D

Now I can't ftp files to my web site

It seems my web host ( a free dial-up service run by the BBC ) insists on it's members using a BT phone line for 'validation purposes'. They are 'discussing' the possibilities of introducing new services for Broadband users 'at some stage', but for now I'm stumped.

My small personal site does not need a lot of space and does not warrant any expenditure (anyway, I'm an accountant and we're known to be as tight as ...... no matter). The last thing I had wanted was to be moving my site and I am concerned about losing any existing links to my URL, as well as any reciprocals that are in the pipeline. So, I would be very grateful for any and all suggestions .... or, in other words .... HELP!!!!

Could you give us more details on why you can no longer ftp. I have broadband with a BT line and I can ftp.
I really apologise if I have missed something here but I know how frustrating it is when something won't work.

Would like to help if I can.

Cheers.

Just worked out what you meant in your original post, sorry got the wrong end of the stick.

I am sure there is going to be a way of redirecting hits. I will have a good think about this one.

CHeers.

Have you no BT phoneline at all now?

Oh yes. And I still have my modem so, for the time being, I can still ftp by changing my settings and connecting through my old dial-up account. It justs costs money and takes time.

I have pretty much decided to find a new ISP that I can access with Broadband and upload my site there. Then I will create a graphic explaining I have moved and put it onto all of my existing web pages and also change all the page-to-page links to point at my new site. That way anybody arriving in my old site and clicking a link will go to my new site without even realising it. In time, the search engines will send everyone to my new site anyway and my old one can float around cyber-space for ever more.

It's perhaps not the most elegant solution, but I think it'll work.

John

It is done.

My solution is not very ellegant but my Counter Stats cause me to think it is working. I would consider it a huge favour if some kind soul would visit my old site and give me some feedback.
