View Full Version : Confused ... and help needed.
I am setting up my web site with a different ISP (aol). I have uploaded my files to my web space exactly as I have done in the past with my previous ISP. The problem I am having is that some of the graphics will not display on my aol site even though they are identical to the old one. As an example check out my Logo on my index page at both sites ... http://jwj.members.beeb.net and http://members.aol.com/JWJarts
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thanks
John
Forget the last .... I've fixed it. :D
Seems AOL ignore files with spaces or brackets in the file names and is even case sensitive. Can't understand the thinking behind it but now I know I can work with it. Just gotta work through my site making the necessary mods. Oh well.

I know what you mean :) my host will only do lowercase filenames so if I messup and have something capitalized it will be incorrect.

The reaso for the not accepting of file names with spaces or case sensitivity is because AOL is running some kind of *nix system as thier webserver.
These unix variants are case sensitive at the OS level.

When I first learnt HTML there was a thing about all file names being lower case and no longer than 8 characters long. It is quite a good thing, sticking to lower case names makes it easy for me to remember, and the 8 character thing makes you think carefully about naming your files.
I don't know the technical reasoning behind this though.

The 8 letter max is still a holdover from DOS.
