Today was my first day with "StatCounter". Generally speaking, I think its wonderful. I especially love the fact that I can actually see each and every page that each visitor has gone to look at. This makes great information for my company on many levels.
One complaint though, the way the stats are counted. eg: I had 5 unique visitors to my site (varified by my second and older counter from another company). On my statcounter summary chart it says that I have had 10.
StatCounter already gives us the IP address of every visitor, so I ask how difficult is it to formulate at unique visitor stat derived from IP information?
Here is a thought... and maybe the simplest solution.
Leave everything as is. But add a new chart or list that breaks down the individual IPs per day so that we can see how many new hits we have based on that.
To take it further you could later add another column that indicated how many returns that IP has made.
The cookie info can be kept to continue the page tracking (which I will say again... Is amazing information).
This way we could have very robust product to work with.
