I noticed that Taiwan is named "Province of China" when a visitor from there is tracked. I thought it was an independent republic.

LOL, it probably depends on whether you ask Mainland China or Taiwan!

Actually more likely the ISP of whatever user you are tracking may be.
But probably it's just the geo mapping service that translates the information this way. :P
