Hello
I installed two projects:
http://www.unitedscripters.com/
http://www.unitedscripters.com/door.html
The first is invisible for it is a framesetter.
Particularly the first declares that I have received 1400 visits in one day (option to count in only unique visits selected). This can't be, I was used at most to 200.
Is the counter working fine on a framesetter?
Also, when I see the STATS of a project and I select Visitor (this affects BOTH projects), I see a list where, clearly, the same visitor may be reported also dozens of consecutive times. Now, these can't be reloads, I don't think nearly all my visitors franticlaly reload ten times in one minute.
How could I set the Visitor section so that rather than a list with so many subsequent duplicates I can see a list somewhat more sober?
I have currently things like this: (I DO APOLOGIZE FOR THE LONG LIST: I just want to give you an idea of how confusing the statistic of the Visitor currently are on my projects, this surfer is listed 20 times in two minutes or so:

No answer? Those logs are clearly repetitive, is that nromal or is there any setting to see one user listed only once rather than 20 times? It is already set to count only unique visitors yet it seems to report tohose things. They can't even be refreshes, who refreshes 5 times in the SAME second?

My username is:
unitedscripters
I have two projects, one for
http://www.unitedscripters.com/door.html
one for
http://www.unitedscripters.com/
The last is a framesetter so the counter is invisible. yet BOTH counters display the same type of visitor list oddity: same visitors repeated dozens of times, as if they would be clicking over and over in the _same_ second and the counter would even be so fast to catch them all :-)
Thank you!

On the first page that I looked at you are using some script that reloads it every few seconds with a different image. I think this would trigger the counter every time the page is reloaded and that would explain multiple hits from the same visitor IP address. I haven't looked at the detail of how it is being done.
I haven't looked at the seond url yet.

There is not such code Cristina. You have probably mistook a code that swaps an image on mouse over with what you mention. Yet, on the peahe there is no timeout, so there is nothing that reloads the page.
I have that problem with my counter but that can't be the answer. There is only an image swapper for an onmouse over, if you log on the page the page doesn't reload as you say, Thank you anyway ciao

I PROMISE I will NOT add more, yet see what crazy things. It counts multiple times in the very same second, that is as if it would count in millisceonds.
This is always the same visitor, and is only a part of the log. See the time. Can't be you see. Weird.

Well, I can't even begin to understand all the scripts you're using there. But I notice that the first page also uses frames.
Please read on how to place the counter on a pages that use frames, as it is a bit tricky. Not using thsi myself, I don't have a clear understanding of the process.
This from the counter configuration for frames, where you generate the HTMl code to use:
Use frames
Does your website use frames? If so then tick this box. Remember the code should be placed within the frame containing the main content (not your navigation page or your header page), after the <body> tag and before the </body> tag of the pages you want to track. DO NOT PUT THE CODE ON YOUR PAGE THAT CONTAINS THE <frameset> tags. It won't work!
Also I could add make sure your statcounter code is not placed within the scope of a script that performs any kind of loop.

You will find that every time someone hits the " to top of page" link on your websites, this will add another count on your counter, also alot of people use the back button to navigate back to the original menu, even tho most pages have a menu to move back or forward, this is often the reason web stats show the erratic movment around your sites- this information has all been found by reading the statcounter tracking details - wonderful information supplied by statcounters

Hello
I answer you questions. As already said to cristina there is just no such javascript as the one she reports. There is an image swapper but NOTHING that reloads the page. Otherwise the cause would have been obvious and I would have been the first not to wonder about these strange logs.
The counter on the framesetter is _already_ set to run on the framesetter, that is the option I chose for it. Yet as I said in my posts above I have 2 (two) counters, one for the framesetter and the other for a normal page, and both counters do the same thing. I am not surprised that a vistior is listed multiple times, I am surprised that the same visitor can even be listed 7 times in the _same_ second.
It happens all the time. I had another counter in the past same pages but nothing like thisd happened. Very strange.
PS let me stress again there is NOTHING in the page that automatically reloads it. Cristina mistook at a first glance an image swapper on mouse over with a page reloader
thank you a lot let me know if you have other ideas, that's really weird otherwise I wouldn't bother you :)
ciao ALberto

Alberto,
In the first url, for the index, you have placed your counter in the <head> ... </head> section. It should be in <body> ... </body>, but I don't see any there - maybe because of frames. You really should not place the counter there, it should be placed on the page which is in the main frame - I think that would be door.html here.
The second url (for door.html) appears to be redirected to the first one again when accessed directly from the address bar. The only way I can see the code of door.html is by right-clicking in the left side frame. There the statcounter code (I see it's a different one) seems to be properly placed within the body section. But I do see some frame-related scripts in the head section, which I can't follow all that well, not to say not at all :)
I don't understand fully how all this works, it is rather unlike any other usages of frames I've seen before - but then I haven't had much experience with frames.
I hope this helps debug a bit.
PS: I normally have an "H" in my name, although it's been spelled without one before - way back when I lived (very) briefly in Italy :) I use it just to confuse people

Thank you Christina
mah it's rather confusing, for first I had just one project, the one in door.html BODY tag, and it _already_ registered _multiple_ times my visitors. A previous counter (not satcounter.com though) I had on it didn't show this issue at all. The amazing fact is that one single user can be reported even up to 7 or 8 times in the _same_ second you see Christina, which can't be even with the fastest redirections of the world.
As for your question about frames, that is a simple device: if a surfer accesses a page outside the framesetter, the page sends the user back to the framesetter and displays correctly itself in the big frame below. One redirection.
This use of frames where only one frame is actually visible and the other is just one pixel wide is made to allow storage of varables within the framesetter document: in this way you can by javascript store "session" variables that gets communicated from page to page (I use it to report the history of the visited pages within _my_ website) because if the lifespan of a FRAMED document lasts as long as the document, the framesetter lasts for all the time a user is within the website.
I prefer that to cookies because the history of a navigation mught exceed the amount of data that one can store in a (javascript generated) cookie.
So the redirection is just _one_, in the worst case I would expect a double log for each vistor, but the very strange fact is that I have also 8 logs in the same second for the same vistor, and this already happened vefore I added the second proiject for the framesetter (which gy the way though still affected by this multiple logs, correctly reports the referrers).
Thank you a ot for your time and sorry for the italian spelling of your name, it just came natural to me at first
ciao

unitedscripters,
I am having the exact same problem with my stats.
Do you notice your visitors totals being different from the details on the path page as well? My stats are all out of wack. I just gave up on getting help and signed up elsewhere (no problems there).
I am very much a newbie and don't have a clue as to the technical stuff (frames) you guys were talking about. My sight is fairly simple, I don't have any java or fancy flashing stuff.
Sorry to hear you are having problems. What is your site? Maybe we can still help.

my site is cottoncountrysales.com. But things may be a bit messed up now. I removed the code when I switched, then decided to reinstall it because I liked your site better and was hoping things would get fixed so there is no telling what I've done. But things were messed up before I removed the code.
Wow! yes, it's messed up. The Statcounter code appears numerous times (just look in View>Source).

Sorry to tell you this, but FrontPage is quite crappy that way.
Are you publishing directly to the web site? You should instead save on your hard disk and then upload.
I use Dreamweaver, but I basically work in source code mode, sometimes I take a look at the html view just to see the effect of my code. I never publish straight to the web site. I test on my pc first and then upload using an FTP program (ws_FTP used to be free, you can still get it, if you don't have an FTP program, from ftp://ftp.cac.psu.edu/pub/access/cd/windows/utils/ftp/ws_ftp/ws_ftpLE.exe ).
What you could do right away is edit your file on your pc using Notepad, and look for all the instances of Statcounter, delete them and save it. Then upload it to the site.

You must be saving the changed file in the wrong place (or under the wrong name) on your pc and then you're not uploading the same file. Or your upload doesn't "take" because you may have blocked ovewriting of the file on the server, so it's not in fact being uplaoded successfully. Or you are doing all this right and your actual site uses another file. There is no other explanation unless you believe in gremlins
Check the file extensions and make sure you're not saving your file as something.txt instead of something.html or whatever it's supposed to be.

Forget Frontpage. You're using Notepad now.
Open Windows Explorer (note: NOT Internet Explorer!). Go to the folder where you have your file. Right click on that file and select Open with and then select Notepad.
Once it's in Notepad, find the places where you've put the Statcounter code. Delete all of the occurrences. It's just a text file, you're looking at the source code. Add fresh Statcounter code from your project right at the bottom of your file before the </body> tag. Insert a line above that spot and paste all the fresh Statcounter code right there.
Check your file visually again and save it. Not save as, just save.
Try to execute the file right from Windows Explorer by double clicking on it and see how it looks.
Upload the file to your web site. Either use an FTP program, or go the web site's control panel if you've got access to it and upload it from the file manager there - don't forget to specify Overwrite as an option on the upload (or some similar command). If you can't do any of those things, try using Frontpage to publish to the site, but be very careful which commands you use to make sure you overwrite the old file there with the new one you've just saved on your pc.
I don't have Frontpage so I don't know the details of the commands available, but there must be something for this.
Good luck.

Okay, I did that and it seems to have worked. At least on my computer. I uploaded it. Can you check it for me? www.cottoncountrysales.com. I should be able to check my stats and see. I believe it worked.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now only a couple dozen more pages to go.
Can you generate customers for me as well? lol
Well, I see there's just one instance of the statcounter - though somehow it still didn't end up right at the bottom of the file, but it's probably ok. You'll have to check your own stats since I have no access to them as you've made them invisible.
You do have a broken link for the Second Time Around thing.
Also your other stats service is generating a javascript error - actually it looks like the account does not exist or some such thing.
Sorry, customers are not my speciality! LOL!

For the broken link there's also a missing picture, that's how I found the link is not working as well.
You can take out the other counter stuff the same way you did it for Statcounter: using Notepad, etc....
I can see the javascript error because I enabled notificatioons on errors. Get rid of that, and some visitors may turn into customers? I don't know, just a thought.
Time for me to call it a night now :D

Yes the problem exists. I keep using statcounter for it is so nice also if there is this "annoying" thing.
Perhaps I should stress that it is not due to the misplacement of one of the two counters I use. Also when I had only one statcounter, and it was after the body tag, that counter still kept listing multiple times the same users, more times in the same second. So it was not the second counter that caused the problem, which I added a couple of days later, the problem was already there also with one counter after the body tag.
If another user who hasn't the framestter type I'm using is experienceing the same thing, perhaps there is something that statcounter could consider might get fixed.
Yet I insts, statcounter is very good to my eyes, I love it.
I juust suspect there must be something to fix for the visitoprs section, for that multiple listing issue seems to affect not just me.
anyway, great product
