Returning Visit Stats, Drill Downs, Email Reports, Secure Tracking and a Disable Ads Option
StatCounter is here to help as many webmasters as possible to understand their visitors, and help them to make important about their website in real-time! That’s what we’re all about at StatCounter and that will never change!
Improvements For All Members
We’ve added a very insightful ‘Returning Visit Stats’ to the Standard StatCounter Project that allows you to see how ‘sticky’ your website is. You can quickly see if you have faithful visitors or if they are all just one hit wonders! If you have a low return visit frequency you might wantt o increase the stickiness of your website, and offer something that will make your visitors return again and again.
We finished all the drill down reports – no more of that “this feature is currently being developed”. We also added basic weekly and monthly email reports which can now be configured by logging into your account and click the little email icon beside your project name. We are working on making the reports better, but they are a good start.
Upgraded Member Perks
All upgraded members now have the option of disabling the tribal fusion banner ad that appears on StatCounter in the top right corner when you login to view your stats. If you are a web design company with clients who use StatCounter – you can also replace that banner ad, with your own company logo. Allowing your to co-brand your service alongside StatCounter.
We’ve added a secure tracking option for all upgraded accounts, so if your website has a shopping cart on a secure website (e.g. it uses https) you won’t be getting any confirmation messages about using a non secure server. To use this option you need to generate the code with the https option ticked on.
Upgraded members also now have access to a special “daily email report” which will send you your stats everyday. We are still working on this to make it better, but again it is a good start. It won’t contain any information that isn’t already available from your real-time stats in your account.
Advanced StatCounter Project
We don’t have a specific date for the release of the Advanced StatCounter Project yet, but it will definitely be before the end of 2004.
The fundamental focus change in the Advanced StatCounter Project from the Standard StatCounter Project will be the amount of data stored and archived. The Advanced StatCounter Project will be able to store very large log sizes, and will have a greater reporting capability, being able to select specific periods you want your really detailed stats for, instead of just the last xxx number of pageloads. Unfortunately this type of service is only possible as part of a paid service.
Thank You!
As always we have to thank our loyal members, who make StatCounter possible and especially to our many upgraded members now. Please keep recommending the service to your friends, and if you can afford the upgrade please do so, the perks and stats are great and it helps us to keep the service profitable.
Our costs have definitely been growing. Just over 12 months ago it was running on 1 dedicated server with just myself and getting about 10,000 pageloads a day. Now we are running across 12 dedicated servers with a team of 5 people and getting 400,000 pageloads a day!
That’s all for now folks. Stay tuned for more updates on the Advanced StatCounter Project before the end of the year.
I started using Statcounter just over a month ago now, and find it invaluable. Thanks for this great tool. :D
Glad you like it. We're here to help website owners understand their visitors :)

We really appreciate the service you provide. We are small and specialised in Oz hence a limited audience on the global scale, but StatCounter has helped us to keep track of visitors - and a lot more than we could have imagined are from overseas!
OK, we need to provide more content that encourages 'stickiness' (about 30% at present), but that is useful to know.
Reckon any larger business should definitely sign up for the paid service, especially with the improvements to come!
Many thanks and best wishes.
You're the reason we exist - I'm glad you are finding all the tools so useful.
I love the returning visits stats as well myself.

Great new feature, the Returning Visits. Love it. But you may want to correct the text that explains the drill down button on that page. It now says "Drill down the data - show the users that used this as their resolution." Copy-paste method?
Thx - Changed.
You're not a software developer if you don't copy and paste. :)

I upgraded account and obtained Secure code. However, when going to secure web page, a warning message is shown on IE6.0 that the page contains both secure and nonsecured items. Here is a sample page:

Please advise.
We're getting that problem as well now - we'll have it fixed in a minute.
OK - fixed. Thanks for the heads up.

re your last email:
Hi
I've been using StatCounter for a while now - a year? more? and really
liking it and the info I get from it.
your quote:

I have long been thinking that I would not mind contributing, but I have no
need for a log quota of 1000 and $9/mo is quite a bite for little old me
(besides, I'm getting everything I need now!). If you had some option for
$3/mo (like a "feel-good" membership), I would jump at it. I wonder if a
few others might, too, and maybe hopefully alleviate your money situation a
tad... I have been through a number of other counters, even paying ones,
that gave me lots less, and a lot of hastle!
Best to you!

I have been using StatCounter for about one month and I am really imprssed. I was glad to see the addition of "Returning Visitors" data. I did notice something that I wanted to bring to your attention regarding the returning visitors pie graph. The key on the graph covers the percentages on the smallest slices of the chart. Is there any way to correct this?
I'm not aware of anyway to change it from not displaying a legend for all items.

The legend is great and needs to be present. It appears to be too large only on the returning visit chart. As a result it covers the percentages on the smallest slices of the pie chart. It be seen here on my returning visitor stats: http://s10.statcounter.com/project/standard/returning.php
Thanks

Gyrene, only YOU can see that page, as it is part of your own stats account to which you alone are signed in
It shouldn't be overlapping any more. Take a look.

We'll be slashing the cost of upgades and I hope to introduce a $49 a year upgraded service in November. That's the plan for the moment.
So if you really can't afford the US9/EUR7 a month (which is soooo cheap :) ) - you could wait till November when we'll have more options.

I just wanted to say that I loved StatCounter before the improvements and now I love it even more! You guys are wonderful. :D
The only thing that would make my life complete is stats on how long each visitor stayed on the site. Then I could die and go to heaven, LOL.
Thanks for all your hard work! :)

That's what we're all about here at StatCounter - helping webmasters to learn about their visitors, and get down to see the data they are really interested in.
If you want to get better stats, and help keep the service profitable an upgrade wouldn't go astray either :D

I see that you are stating there are daily email stats available but in the click down field it only shows weekly and monthly...is this in the works or am I missing something?
I came to you from Nedstat and there is no comparision in terms of service and info.

Daily email reports are only available with upgaded accounts.

I was playing, I knew you favoured STATCOUNTER
Its a simple choice, I have been using Statcounter for over a year and the sevice seems to be up-graded almost on a weekly basis, I am thinking of giving up work and spend all my day looking at the data of my stats, there just is no time left for the work now

Hello,
First of all, thanks for a great service!
Next, are the weekly email reports currently active? I have had that option enabled on two of my projects for a while now & I haven't received any reports. The "send the email report now" icon isn't active either.
they should be working alright - did you login and check them to ensure they are active?
martin_uboo
09-27-2004, 05:32 PM
Yes I did. Here is a paste from one of the projects:
Status Report Type Format Period
Active Summary Report html weekly
Do you want me to PM you with the account/project details?
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I'll get martin (from statcounter) to look into it. He's responsible for them. Sorry for any inconvenience, they should be working. We'll get it sorted.

I was wrong when I said earlier:
The "send the email report now" icon isn't active either.
I was clicking on the "Key" envelope icon, not the actual icon. I received the requested "Email report now" report, but have never received the weekly reports.
Thanks again for the prompt replies & I look forward to Martin's (from statcounter) reply.
This is a really great service! Your support & forum replies are better than most paid services.

Hello Martin :)
We were facing some problems while sending weekly reports last week. You should receive your weekly report today. They were scheduled to be sent in about 2 hours.
If you don't receive any or there is other problem with them, please let me know, I'll get it sorted.

I'm sorry, I was wrong .. Monthly email reports would be scheduled on that time when 1st of the month was today, not weekly.
Weekly stats will be sent about five more hours later. It's due to problems encoutered when all stats were sent at once.

It's now the next day & I haven't received the automatic weekly reports on the two projects that I have set up as active for reporting. I did receive the report when I requested one via the "Send The Email Report Now!" feature from one of my projects. This is strange. What can I do to fix this problem? Let me know.
Should this thread be in the "help" or "bugs" forum? I originally posted here because I was wondering if the feature was active.
Thanks again for your wonderfully prompt replies & excellent customer service.

Hello Martin,
at the moment all reports have been sent now. I see that your reports should be sent also to other people. Could you tell me if it's only you who didn't receive the report or if your reports weren't send to anybody?
I'm trying to find out what's the problem, the file with logged email addresses, that were reports sent to, contains your email.
Thanks for your respone, I'm trying to get the problem sorted as soon as possible.

I have not received any email reports except for the one I requested that I mentioned in my earlier post. I checked with one of the people who are supposed to receive weekly reports. He hasn't received any emails from statcounter (neither the one I requested, nor any weekly reports). I'll check with the other person who is on the list & see if he received any reports.
This lack of reports is not a major problem as I go to statcounter daily to check on my projects. I originally posted just to see if the service was active after I saw the announcement. It would be nice for the clients to receive reports.
I really appreciate this prompt & thorough follow up on a problem involving a free service. You folks are great!
I can't wait for your new pricing on the upgrade service. I'm going to try to squeeze that into one of the project's budget. It seems like I ought to pay something for such a great service. The new stat features are wonderfull & this service is better than all the stats services that come with my various webhosting packages!

Hello Martin and all,
thanks for your posts, I'm trying to find out why don't come to you. It would be great if you told me that someone of people, that should receive report, have really received it. Reports for next week should be send lately today and through tomorrow, I believe you should get them.
I'm still working on finding out what's the problem with it. Thanks for your patience

Martin, I have not received any weekly email reports. Neither has the two others that are CC'd on the one project.
I have 4 projects, but only 2 have the weekly email report enabled. Would it help any if I enabled the option on the other accounts to see what happens? Since it seems like I'm not the only account with this problem, I would be happy to do anything that I can to assist you?
Thanks again for a wonderful service & support!

Any movement on this. I'd be very interested in this depending on the amount of logging provided.
the END of novemeber
As soon as we get our advanced statcounter project finished, we'll hopefully be upgrading all the current upgraded members to have immediate access to this, and we'll be slashing the current upgrades to the standard statcounter project.
I still fully intend to have this by the end of November - no need to wait to upgrade though - we'll be giving you even more for your money at the end of the month is all.

I'm sorry I can't tell you better news, but we're still not sure why some messages aren't being sent. I'm afraid I can't tell you when it's fixed, because first we need to find out, why these reports aren't sent.
We're still working on it, we'll let you know about our progress.
Thanks a lot for your patience
