View Full Version : One site or two ?

My first site was set up with a very good pay-as-you-go ISP. When I switched to broadband I could no longer access my site. I recreated it with my broadband provider (AOL). Since my old site is still in place and picking up some hits, I am redirecting traffic to my new site. Now the pay-as-you-go ISP has upgraded its systems so that I can access the old site again, and I do have a number of issues with AOL. Consequently, I have been debating whether to persevere with the new AOL site having gone through the considerable upheaval of relocating, or move back to the old one.

My question is this. Would I actually be better off retaining BOTH sites and putting half of my site content on each? Would sensible links between the sites have an effect on my search engine ranking (one way or the other)? Are there likely to be ANY advantages or disadvantages?

Any and all comments would be most welcome.
Thank you
John

Hmmm, I'd get rid of both actually and move to a reliable webhosting service, whether free of paid up.

Having your site split up over 2 webhosts will add to the confusion and will make having one domain name impossible.

Thank you both for your advice.

Having gone through the upheaval of moving my site once I do not relish the thoughts of doing it again. To be honest, cost is an issue. My freebie host has always been reliable and I only moved away when he was unable to allow access by broadband. I use AOL for connection only and do not use their services. I dislike much of what they offer and the more I discover, the more I dislike. I have recently found out that anyone searching for UK content only will not find my site becasue AOL makes out I am in America.

My site content would easily split into two .... an Art site, and 'the other stuff' ... so it would be like maintaining two separate web sites .... but I appreciate your advice and will keep things as they are. I just need to decide which host to use. I'll have a browse around and see what else is available.

Thanks again
John
