View Full Version : New photo site almost finished- feedback please
Hi,
I've posted about my new photo site here before, and now it is complete. Not all content has been moved*, but the pages are done. The site now features free user galleries, forums, galleries, camera articles, and more! All the site text will soon be made bold to improve readability. If your are interested in photography or would like to give me some more feedback, please check it out! http://www.themotec.com/photo
*All content is made and is still available at www.themotec.com/Ole
Also, for those of you that use FireFox, the new site looks slightly different than in IE. The dividing line(Actually a table) beside the main menu doesn't touch the end of the page when viewed in firefox. Anyone know why? Do I need to use autostertch?

The link color are a little dark, not to be critical.
Also your login code is not at all secure. You may want to write it in PHP if you can. I can read all your username, password, etc. Not sure how secure you want it. Since it is all in JavaScript.
On some screens, the link text appears dark, but it really isn't. I use a LCD screen, and they are light. If I make them lighter, they will be too light on some screens. I think that too dark is better that too light, unless there is contrast. Thanks for the feedback, though.
About the login script, I know its vunerable. You can just download the script and see the usernames. There is nothing important password protected, and its better than a Java applet, which I had before.
Right now, I am focusing on content and the new site design.
Thanks for your feedback. :D :D What do you think of my photos and forums? http://www.themotec.com/picturepro/nfpicturepro This gallery simply has some of my good photos, but not all.

Nice photos, Momo. How do you like the Coppermine Gallery? I use that too, but it bugs me a lot. I'm having trouble figuring out how and where to fix the screen size exactly to accomodate my header and my footer properly. Right now it's scrolling vertically although there's still a lot of white space which I can't seem able to remove. I'm also using the same water-drop skin as you are. I think it's the most soothing skin they have.
I'd like the slideshow to display at least the title of the photos. I haven't looked too much at that script.
I also positively hate the fact I can't seem able to easily present the photos in my own order. It sems they have to be sorted by either date or file name or title. I'd much prefer to be able to place them in my own order. The instructions on how to do that require I modify the scripts and I still have to define the order by some criteria.
All these mods may not be impossible, except every time there's a new release and I upgrade I ahve to do them all over again. This of course includes my re-adding the headers and footer and the statcounter code. Unless I have missed some place where I could do it more easily.
Thats cool! :D The coppermine gallery is ok in my opinion*, but it only contains my good photos. I dont have that many photos, so I dont need sorting. It does have good and bad sides, though.
All the other photos, including good and ok photos, are in adobe galleries, and I have over 240. I doubt that you have noticed that part of the site. :D It is not in the new deign, but in the old one, currently.
*The good side is: good design and user galleries, browser upload
By the way, just call me Mo in the forum. In case you were wondering, "Mo" is not my real name, but a widely used nickname. The only reason that I made my screen name momo here is that I thought I would almost never use the forum, and thats just a variation of my nickname. It was the first thing that came accross my mind. I prefer Mo, thogh, but wont change it now.

Ok, Mo! Shorter to type, if anything! :D
Is it 240 photos or Adobe galleries? :o
Indeed I didn't run into your other photos, will look for them though.
I have about 260 photos in my gallery as well, most of them taken this past summer. I guess I was a bit trigger happy
---- Edit ----
Oh, I saw some of the other photos. Very nice!
Thanks! :D I will shortly improve navigation and make the galleries more noticeable. I have a total of about 240 photos in 19 or so galleries.
