Hi,
I've been trying to improve my homepage for a long time, and I think I am getting there. I have posted a similar topic before, but this one is a bit different.

Improvements so far (Yes, I know that the site layout is very simple)

1. Homepage can fit in most resolutions w/o scrolling (including 800x600)
2. Dynamic hover effect over main links (Short description of content)
3. News links (Hopefully to attract attention)
4. New site content links

Does anyone have any suggestions? (Any help is greatly appreciated :)) What exactly makes a homepage good? Images, popups, colors? Site link :www.themotec.com

Oh yes, and when you view the page, do you know what the site is about? Or is that message unclear?

Thanks for any help!

How do you think I can improve my homepage and add catchy images w/o using up too much space? I havealready implemented the hover links, but i think I need more pics. Maybe small versions of these woutl work?: www.themotec.com/temp/promotion2.htm

The second link is my photo site: my main content. I wish it was more visible/stood out, and I want to move it to a different domain. There, I have the pictures for the photo gallery. I will see what I can do on my real homepage, though.

I'm just not sure where I would put the eventual banner. Above the whole table, before the actual site starts, or below? Maybe inside somewhere? I guess that I will just experiment. I will make some test banners and post some page samples soon.

Edit: 11/27/2004: the links don'twork, but now the banner is on the homepage at www.themotec.com

I have started using some bold on the homepage. I know that's a good technique to begin with.

So far, 1 vote for the top banner,
1 vote for the bottom.

Add one more for the banner on the bottom.
i run my screen at high resolution so your page appears rather small, pale, and hanging from the top of the screen. The banner at the bottom brings the visual focus there, closer to the middle of the screen.

Ok. Now:

2 votes for the bottom
1 vote for the top.

I guess that I will put it at the bottom once I develop the banner. Thanks for the feedback.
