Anyone use illustrator?

Hi i'm making some shapes in illustrator using the paint brush. When I make my shape like an S for example another color fills in the S connecting the 2 points of the S making it an 8. Does anyone know how I can avoid making the other color met the 2 points, its very hard to get the look I want with the other colors interefering. It's kind of hard to explain. I hope I explanned it clear enough to understand. Thanks.

Hi,
In the appearance menu (mine is on the right hand side) you need to have the stroke set at the thickness of line you want and the fill to be set at nothing. To set the fill at nothing look at the toolbar menu, click once on the fill colour then click once on the third little icon which is white with a red line through it.

This is very difficult to explain, hope it makes sense. If not please feel free to ask again.
