I'm having the exact same problem. Statcounter is causing my site to hang. When I remove the StatCounter code, site loads fine.

I have had to remove the statcounter code from all of my pages as well. The pages load half way then hang, I remove the code and everything is fine. I have seen this before with another stat service which is the exact reason I came over to statcounter. Its probably something thats going to be fixed soon but I have found another wicked stat service that blows everything else away including this one! Seeyazzz

I wont be putting the code back on unless i'm assured this wont happen again. Non loading pages mean no pennies.

The www.statcounter.com site is down right now, thus no counters will work at all.

OK, thanks for that. But because the site is down it shouldn't be able to disable the loading of web pages. This is a serious issue that must be sorted out by the bosses. I know this service is free but issues like this need to be addressed urgently. It has taken me three hours tonight to delete the code from all of my sites.

Well, I guess it can't be helped, since there's a script involved that generates an image file - and that hangs since the server is either down or extremely slow - I'm guessing extremely slow actually.

I used http://alertra.com/spotcheck.php to check the accessibility of the site and it showed it as down from everywhere where it was being tested, so it's not an ISP issue at my end. There may be problems in the network on the way to that datacenter of course, which will amount to the same thing - site down for all intents and purposes.

If your counter code is placed at the bottom of the page, then your pages should load OK, minus that part. Of course, if it's at the top, then all hangs until that loads. I place mine at the bottom. it's more improtant for me that my pages loads rather than having the counter track stuff, but that's just me probably.

All my codes were at the bottom but the loading bar on any site never went above 50%.

Same problem here. My pages are loading okay until they reach the place where the Statcounter code is built in. After this they hang for about 10-15 seconds. Then the rest of the page is loading, but without the Statcounter code clickable.

By the way, yesterday I encountered exactly the same problem. It's a very serious issue indeed. Visitors will leave when this is happening to pages they try to visit, they probably don't come back too.

I'm very curious for what time this problem is expected to exist. When it's in terms of days, I really like to know. I need to temporarely remove the Statcounter code then. So please could anybody tell something?

Thanks in advance.

If you want visitors then remove the code. This has been going on for many hours now and I am very surprised that a moderator has not posted.

Dont all get me wrong, up until now I have been very pleased with this service, but happenings like this will force members to look elsewhere. I used AddFreeStats for years and never had a problem like this.

I don't think anybody is getting you wrong, no worries. It's very irritating to suddenly own a more or less 'dead website', so a bit frustration is quite normal I think ;) And it's nice to share some information about this issue on this forum.

Seems to be working ok again now. But now the dilema, I am going abroad from tomorrow for 9 days and wont have access to my websites. Should I reinstall the code or not? Can I trust it not to lock my websites up again?

I moved the code to be the last thing before my closing body tag and closing html tag and that allowed the page to load even when they were totally down.

A web server is not different from any other hardware. Even your computer, car, mobil (cell) phone and ISP connection or whatever can stop working from time to time. The main thing is if get fixed within a reasonable time.

Since the server is up again, there is no need for the Statcounter team to comment here, because the reason to the problems is allready known adn solved.

To have less problem if the server goes down again, do as "gen" advised. Put the code far down on the page as you can. If you have a visible counter and like to have it someplace else on the page, you can manage that with little CSS. I don't know if it's obvious for everybody what I am suggesting, but I give you one example:

<div style="position:absolute;width:100px; left:15px; top:15px;">
Statcounter code goes here
</div>
This will set the visible counter 15 pixels from the left and 15 pixels from the top of the screen, no matter what and where you have the counter code and content on the page. Of cause you can change the position by using other figures for the with, left and top and also "right" in the place of left if you like.

Hi, I am new to statcounter and frankly this post makes me nervous.
Was this issue ever resolved to a satisfactory outcome?
I'd really like to see a moderators comments on this
If you need specific help from the Statcounter team I suggest opening a ticket from your account. Otherwise you'll have to make do with the forum help as it comes, whether it's from other users or from a Statcounter team member. They don't have much time to answer a slew of posts scattered all over the forum on the same issue over and over again, surely you appreciate that.
