Heres a nice php/mysql script I just picked up. It allows you to run a 'Classifieds' section on your site. I'm in the middle of setting up one now and it's a neat easy little program.

2412electrics - Classifieds (http://www.2412electrics.com/classifieds/index.php)

Thanks to Noahs Classifieds (http://classifieds.phpoutsourcing.com/) for a wonderful free script! (I'm gonna chuck em a nice donation if it works out ok and it seems to be working fine up till now!

Hope you all had a nicer Christmass than they did in the Soaps...Corrie & Eastenders were just sao lame lol ^_^

Merry Christmass all - Humbugs as well he he he he

:)

ps. no I'm not drunk ....HiCCles...*Blurps* oooOOOPPPSSS soRRy :D

btw I just been messing with it more ..sub-categorys in sub-categories in sub-cat...whoa this thing rocks! Image uploads...very nice...

I'm running it as a 'Free Classifieds' area.

Well pleased with the find. and it's bloody easy to use for a change - it has a shopping cart as well from what I can see but I think I'll try integrate it to my catalog...nice bit of kit :)

only one problem I can't get hover links to post properly.

if i use

The Link (the-link-here.com)

Thats what I get ---hmmm wonder if bbcode will work...runs of to try :)

edit: Nope :( wonders what it is....:(

yeah... I was wondering how to integrate that shopping cart and the advertisement.php file... Oh well... so bad they don't provide support anymore (but I guess when you send your donation you can take the chance to ask them  )

By the way, when I unziped the software it created a folder called classifieds_1_3... I was wondering if I rename the folder won't screw the whole thing, I see you could rename it with no problems couldn't you?... I would like to move it right to "mydomain.com/index.php"

You can call the folder anything you want but don't mess with the sub folder names. You can also get rid of the annoying coloured boxes around the catagories and move up the catagories to get a better fit on the page. It is also easy to pump in a bit of Google adsence or something similar. Make sure you set the catogories and sub catagories for info you want to capture in the submit fields as it screws up the results if you don't.

Did this come from http://forum.statcounter.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3018

What is the problem with the hover? The mail cats should have the cat name as the hover. You can change this witha bit of hacking of the code. I haven't looked at the ads part but I would be more tempted to run a seperate one and just PHP include it.

My moded mess about of it is at www.motorwatcher.net/ads It is not linked to my site.

lol no I found it when I was messing about some where else - freescripts or some such...Should have done a search. Yeah the shopping cart looks a bit of a mystery..dunno whats going on there..

but the href is real weird. I should be able to use bbcode or html but niether works...Like say someone puts an add up and wants to link to there site. Folk would rather just click a link than have to copy/paste. I was messing with the template last night - seems interesting to say the least lol

Nice script though... shame there's only an Admin/user level it could do with a sub-Admin level so you can set editors for editing.I'm gonna look at enhancing this I think and maybe upgrade it to xhtml (Heh you know me lol )

Hi Nomad,

Yep html has been disabled. There will be a bit of code in there somewhere but I can't look at the moment.

There is also seems to be another good one here;

http://gonafish.com/lc/freeproducts.php

This site also has a a guest book/conversation script and an add a link script.

Edit

There is a superb one which I have been looking at. Free for non commercial but $149 if you are going to earn off it. It is free and fully functional to download and try and is "the dogs"

http://www.deltascripts.com/phpclassifieds/

Well worth a look.

Do you mean that you can't use HMTL when listing a new add?... Yes you can, you just have to allow HTML when you set the variables in a category, and then the system will ask you to make the field searchable, obligatory, etc... then you just check box "allow HTML" and that's it.

But in my opinion I would prefer not to allow it, otherwise I'll end with a link farm in the long run... but that's just me...

It seems like that one is a banners and ads manager, isn't?...

No idea, haven't tried it, I have no need for it LOL! But it's available with my webhosting.

Yeah the shopping cart looks a bit of a mystery..dunno whats going on there..

Found it! This is what I've found:
In the file: constants.php find the line

$withShoppingCart = FALSE;

And change it by "TRUE" It will appear now!...
However it looks like you have to move this before to install the whole software because the script has to install the shopping cart in mysql otherwise you will mess up your listings... like I did...

My problem now to figure out how to change the name of the tables in my mysql for the another new installation in another subdomain.... if you have an idea, let me know.

How many databases are you allowed in your webhosting account?

If you install a new instance for another subdomain, just change the database name to a new one (when you install or in PHPMyAdmin), and keep the same table names. This way the software has no problem, and you keep them separate.

Your idea is really good, but I'm afraid I believe I can only make one database per account... hmmm I don't like that... (how many usually should be?)... I'm trying to hack the classifieds software...

This is the error I get:
Table 'classifieds_globalsettings' already exists
PHP 4 has been found.
Config file can be created.
MySQL has been found.
Cookies are enabled.
classifieds database has been installed: ***
Error while trying to create tables, classifieds already installed?

But I realized that if I change the table 'classifieds_globalsettings' name in the setting I may screw up everything since I guess the software may use that name in several aplications.. oh well I got a headache now... that's it for today (that's why I don't like to deal with technical matters...)

Well, it looks like you need better webhosting then LOL! (no, this is not a plug).

One MySQL database is really not very much. Not if you're using any pre-fab software, unless you want to modify it a lot and then when it's time for upgrades you'll have hell to pay.

yeah I agree with chris all you would normally do is create a new |DB with a new name and then install.

1 MySQL account on an account is ludicrous - I give 5 on my basic accounts+ e-mail support, phpmyadmin, FP extensions etc.

Yeah it looks like that installs from scratch - what a weird setup... oh well I'll try fix it if I can - only been messing with templates so a reinstal after extracting the parts of the db I currently have - though I may restart all together......

hmmmm interesting script...:)

I've found this info from my hosting provider:
What is the size limit for MySql Databases?

There is no size limit for the Databases but your site may be suspended if your database overloads the server utilizing more than 50% of its resources.

So, I guess is just matter of experimenting with mysql... hey, I'm in the learning process too!

if your using phpmyadmin, go into your control admin panel abd see if you have the option to create new DB's. Generally if you have allowance for multiple DB's this will be enabled via your php config file, If your using a control panel such as XPanel, you can create DB's via MySQL>Create New DB.

You may have ensigm which is similar.

I'd check your account details. Sometimes you have to contact your host direct and get them to install for you. I do this whenever I need 1 - I have 50 with my account so I can comfortably run DB's for other people. set-up is delayed - yeah, but I get a much better support that way. Generally though most DB's requests are done within 24hrs excepting weekends where if ordered saturday - it could be monday before there set-up.

I'd check with your hosts as to what you actually have ...then work from there. From what I can see in running a site similar to what I have, I'm running at least 5 DB's personally and most of my subs are running 3 but I'd say most sites would be comfortable with 5.

Just got online so I'm off to play with MySQL/PHP for the night :D

FUN! Yippee!! lol

I have succesfully implemented Noah 1.3 after seeing this thread. Everything works fine and I could manage modifying layouts, etc.

I want to know how to implement Email facility that will enable users recover password, respond to ads, notifications, etc. My Host server does not have SMTP. However, I have modified MX records and implemented Google apps so that I can use emails in my domain.

Please anyone help me what files I need to modify in order to set SMTP server, username, password, etc, and How to do. I will be very much thankfull if you can help me.

A small Tip for the new ones who wants to implement:
If you want to host it for free, use freehostia.com that supports Noah 1.3
