DSL Guy wonders if having the SQUARE TRADE Seal of Approval on a commercial site makes much of a difference to follow through with an online order.

Oh, never heard of it, or noticed it anywhere. What does it look like?
I guess this means it makes no difference to me.
I'm with Chris ... never heard of it

I have never heard of it but a quick search shows ebay at least have one (not sure if this is the same) There is a lot of negs about them so this may reflect on you. It may do more harm than good.

Yes this is the same seal. The trouble you refer to is with purchases done on eBay.
I did a Free Trial for 90 days using the seal on 2 of my web sites over the Christmas shopping season. It made no difference on my site. That is it inspired no one to follow through with a Broadband order.
The problem with Square Trade's guarantee, for me at least, is it backs up to a $250.00 online purchase but only hard goods, meaning tangible products.
I sell bandwidth, not exactly something you can put in a box and ship to someone.
Now that the trial is over and I cancelled displaying the seal, they want me to try a new type of seal. Free for 90 days. But, if the negative promo they have hovering over them is that bad, I may be better off not participating.

If I'm not mistaken, Their new program is called Trusted Business Seal. This is where an online business applys to place the seal on their site but you must provide documented proof of being a business. They ask for a copy of your business license.
If it's as it's been stated earlier, that SquareTrade itself is not a Trusted Business because of whatever happened at eBay, go figure they would come up with this new program- Trusted Business Seal.

Hi,
Regardless of the name I think that is has to do with creditability. If the "body" is self governing or does nothing for the consumer then forums start to bad mouth these and the marque is a hinderance.
