Hi Everyone,
I am in Australia and have a .com.au domain name. My friend wants to have .com domain name and have it hosted overseas.
What does she have to do to make it come up in Google Search "Pages from Australia"?
Is it a meta tag thing?
Thanky for advice! Especially from Chocoholics!

Alas, it's not a meta tag thing. It really goes by the hosting company - itself - or rather the location of the server.

Thanks, Christina.
That sux. Can you change the internet for me please?
Mark
Mark,
I don't know your friends reasons for this but, for what it's worth I'm in the uk and am hosted in Canada and I don't find it a big problem. I accept that anyone doing a UK-only search will miss me, but I wonder how many people actually restrict their searches to that extent.

John - Emmm. Canadian hosting eh!!! I have restricted searches to UK only. For things like classic car spares.
Mark - Does where the host is make a difference? If the titile, keyword tags and rich text say Oz then it will be found by someone putting in Oz as part of the search. More and more these days ISP's and hosts are sourcing from abroad. My isp was bouncing some of my stuff from Peru the other day. I have one Canadian host too (Hi Christina) and I can guarantee that if I use "England" or "UK" as described above this will affect the search. You will get non Oz people but who cares.
I would have no problems with a USA domain provider and a Canadian host whilst looking to a UK market. Lets face it. If you by from an OZ company, do they guarantee to host in the homeland?

Yes .. me too on occassion. I guess it depends what you're looking for, or what you're selling.
I have "England" well represented in my keywords, and in my content where it is feasible ... but maybe I should include "UK" also. :)
Before setting up my new site in Canada (Hi Christina as well) I had it hosted with AOL so everything I did appearred to happen in America, so I guess I'm used to it.

Thats AOL for you. I have a little admission. Please don't think less of me (If thats possible)
You know those nice AOL disks and packs that you recieve on magazines, through the post and displayed in stores? Well I was partly responsible for making sure these were available to you all. I still have friends in AOL UK. I even had a free AOL business account. I also did a lot of work for Wanadoo and Virgin for the same formats. At least the NTL I did was for people who had signed up. And the IBM was Business to Business only.

... and I thought you were such a nice guy. Oh well, I guess we all have our darker side

I have never been employed by any of these Company's. Just POS and marketing.
I did do last years Lever Faberge (Persil) Art for schools (UK and Ireland) where schools can get free art materials by collecting stars. Is that some redemption?
Absolutley !!! Nice one. :D

Ahem.... I'm not sure my webhosting will actually come up as Canadian either. The server is in Texas and the mother company I deal with is in Oz! What the heck does that make my shop at www.webado.net ? I guess it's a multinational concern
And because i'm too cheap, I didn't even opt for a .ca domain. Like hell if I'm going to pay 3-4 times the price just for that! Not very conducive to being patriotic when it hits the wallet.

I have, .com, .net, .co.uk, .biz & .info for different domain names. I don't think people are to fussed nowadays.

I have the .com, .net and .org for the same name. But .ca costs 3-4 times more at the very least, that's what I meant.
