Hi Mates,
I run a website which is built mainly to attract varsity students residing in the area, I already put up the history of the village and I also tried to invite businesses in the area to advertize on the website but I haven't been successful. What is the best way to advertize this website(http://www.rondebosch.net) to students and people around the village?
Also what can you suggest that I put on the website to attract people.
Thanks Mates

Hi :)
I think your main page can do with some great content and a good statement about the website.
The photo looks good, but basically its an empty stone thing in an empty park.
Maybe some great shots of the university and campus maps.
Also remember that Uni students are pretty young and trendy you need the website to refect their current culture and demographic.. ie make it a bit more hip and groovy! (Does anyone use those words anymore?) Anyway you know what I mean ;)
For someone to use your site they must see a compelling benefit. make it integral to Uni life.
All the best.
Mark

The last word in from the experts is that the word to be used is "sick"
Yes, apparently it's a superlative about on par with "fly" from a few years ago and "like, wow!" which still works for those who are inclined to be more verbose in their comments.

From this side of town, they say that to be cool, one should be "not cool", so I guess to be uncool is tantamount to being cool . . .

Rondebosch a VILLAGE?!? :o I would never have called it a village - even way back when i lived there (about 16 years ago) :D More like a buzzing metropolis - but maybe i've just been in JHB for too long and been bitten by some funny bug...
I'm a varsity student at the moment and to attract students - i think - would be quite difficult but some suggestions:
I see you kinda doing a sorta directory thing - maybe add more pictures and make it a little more vibey and more extensive. You also need things that are not already know: A lot of the places you list are either places i already know (and i'm an out-of-towner) or places i could find by walking through any of the big malls - so thats not really going to attract the locals. Giving visitors the chance to easily submit cool hang-outs, etc (and the less well know ones even better - giving you 'exclusive' content)
Students are also poor and always looking for ways to save money or get free deals - i spend tons of time on our local cellphone providers free sms service... and on StatCounter as well :D so provide info on good deals - even better - provide a directory of places that offer student discount, i would look at that sort of site - if i knew about it.
And thats your next problem - advertising. IMO the best student advertising is word of mouth - so you need to get really excited about your site, tell a couple of students you know - get them to love the site and it will grow from there. This is of course much easier if you are already in with the student community - ie a student - i'm not sure if you are...
my penny's worth... :D

make it a little more vibey
Hmmm cool and groovey people call it 'Vibey'
its very good advice. Students all round the world have one thing in common: they are poor!
