Hi, I am from Nova Scotia. I was asked to create a web page for our Police Department, where I work, and the challenge has been a lot of fun.

I'm relatively new to statcounter and very new to this forum. I love the statcounter :D and rely on it for stats more so than the webalizer. (for one thing it is easier to understand)

This is my first webcreation experience and I am just learning as I go.
Aside from not receiving email reports, I have no complaints and look forward to getting to know you all a bit better.

Welcome to the forum dwhy. :D

I only had time for a brief browse around your site, but it was enough for me to say "nice job!!!". Very smart.

I don't know why you're not getting email reports though ... I thought they were working fine now.

I checked the weekly reports when I first registered and have never received a report. I received the welcome emails from the stat site and from this forum, but that is all. I saw in other posts that this is not just my problem. I like the way the stats work though and so I will wait it out and see what happens. :)

Hello from Superior Wisconsin DWHY;

I hope you find your statcounter experience fun and educational. It's good to have a lawman here. I hope no one harvests your email addy like they have mine for spam purposes. Just a heads up.

I don't use my main email for anything outside of the office anymore. My web mail has spam filters. I still get the odd spamster, but it's better than it was. If something gets through I send it to the blacklist. There's just no real cure for spam. My teens have come up with ideas for their own websites, ie. name-AT-domain. You can't click and write, but the bots can't find them. Can't really do that on a work site though. the person who creates a real fix for spam will be a millionaire overnight. :D

Hi DWHY and welcome to the forum. Nice to see webmastering put to a good community use and not getting stuck in government bureaucracy.

I think your site is really great, content-wise and layout-wise. It's easy to navigate.

Your slogan at the top of the pages

Our Mission is to Provide and Promote a Safe Community By Quality Police Service.

appears too small, maybe you should increase the font just a wee bit.

The main problem I see is the quality of the images. They are very fuzzy. If you can resample the originals and preserve more of the quality it would be great.

I'm not sure I like the effect on the side menu, with the bar appearing on each button as we move from one to another. Again the image quality needs improvement.

This being a police web site, I think it's ok to have the email address displayed. Maybe still turn it into a graphic with a php driven email form linked to when clicking on it. The form could validate information and, more importantly, collect the IP address and other useful information about your poster, just to avoid crackpot posts. Also in that way they'll think twice about trying the Nigeria Scam on you :)

How about an Amber Alert banner? I'd think it appropriate for your site.

Keep up the great community work.

chrisooc your ideas are great. I was thinking the same thing as a matter of fact and just changed the size of our mission statement. As for the pictures, i am also looking for a better program to use on them.
thanks for the advice and the compliments. :D
