In another thread there was mention of dropping prices to get more business.
Specifically China Tea was considering it.
My comment was off topic to that thread so I thought it would be appropriate to put it in a new thread.
these are just my thoughts...
The basic point is not to discount your core products. Fast Food chains do this very well by appearing to give you a discount but are really just discounting the coke or fries, not the Big Mac or the Chicken in KFC.
The point then is What sort of things can you 'discount'?
China Tea has a wonderful website that sells many goods including homewears andd boxes of tea bags.
My suggestion is:
A free Gift with every purchase this week / month only!
Find something to give away that is useful, beautiful, attractive to your clients and you can get very cheaply. For China Tea it could be, for example, a tea sample. chuck in a couple of tea bags that you normally sell by the box.
Then you have the good promo, they buy a vase etc and they think you are giving something for free but really you are 'cross product marketing'. If they like the tea they may buy some on your site!
You are not discounting the Vase. They had to pay full price. If they later buy a box of tea they pay full price.
