I have found that recently my sites' pages were loading so slowly as to be unusable. After investigation I had to remove statcounter code to re-enable my sites functionality.
I DO hope this is a temporary measure - and can I be notified when it is safe to insert the counters again?

You may want to move the counter code to the bottom of the page so it's the last thing that eneds to load. If it shoudl happent that the server is slow or down, it shouldn't prevent the rest of your page from loading.
Any numer of things can cause slowdowns when you're linking to scripts or images frm other servers, nor all of them the fault of Statcounter. Often it is due to conditions on the network in general, ISP's and all that.

oOps , so sorry to kick of my 'life' on the forum with a moan :(.
I think your product is the Bees Knees and have told the same to everyone who will listen ;)
..As this has problem has only arisen over this weekend, I presumed it was a temporary glitch. I have the counter at the bottom of my entry page, but the page refuses to load for 2 mins , then loads completely without the counter showing at all. Since removal - loading is instant.
Try re-installing the code and see if it slows down again. Get 'fresh' code just in case a gremlin crept into your last cut & paste ... you never know. :)

OK - I have re-inserted the code into my default page in http://4e4.net. If you could assist then - for me , the page refuses to load, then eventually loads without the counter - how was it for you my dear ;)
No good. I can't get either your .net or .com pages to open. The only thing I can say is that if this effected everyone we'd have heard about it.
Take the code out again and let's see the page when it's working properly. :)

Thanks for your help.
Oh dear - 4e4.com has the code removed 4e4.net hasnt. From my pc .com loads ok but .net is delayed and then appears without a counter, although the code is present.
I have restarted IIS services in the meantime - could I trouble you to compare them again?
They both work fine now.
I'm not technical and hopefully someone with better knowledge than me may be able to offer a suggestion. One thing I did notice was that your IP address shows in your source. Forgive what may be a stupid suggestion, but is it possible you've put your IP address into Statcounter to stop logging your own hits, and somehow managed to lock yourself ???? just guessing :?

Thanx again for your help, and apologies to statcounter for what seems to be a problem local to me - I will re-install the code and work on getting my browser to behave ( damn u Bill Gates )
:D

As an adendum, and perhaps a clue if anyone else suffers this problem - the icons alongside 'my projects' in the statcounter control center appear blanked with crosses. I notice a similar report in another thread.
Despite my lack of technical capability, I have to conclude the problem IS local to you. Can't say what, but the support teams would be running out of ticket numbers if this was a global problem.
I'll happily look at your sites again when you've put fresh code in ... just holla' :D

Thanks yet again John
I have installed 'fresh' code to both 4e4.com and 4e4.net / index1 (2nd page) I would greatly appreciate if you could report loading ability , and IS the counter visible to you ( note : there is a Zone Diet one on 4e4.com also ).
cheers
Interesting. When I first went to your pages they loaded up fine, and I saw the counter near the bottom of .com, between paypal and ZoneDiet. Returning back to .net to check the position of the counter, it failed to open .... and then returning again to .com, that failed also.
It's as if they were there for a short while. I'm at a loss. :?

hmm, when I re-inserted the code, I was assuming I had a local fault and my webs were working fine, but if thats not certain I must remove all counters till I know for sure.
Out of interest I pasted the <src> "http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter.js"
address directly into my browser with no result. I then typed the homepage in
http://www.statcounter.com/
again - blank page.
This is accompanied by the missing icons in the 'my projects' area. I must resolve the problem and keep my websites accessible till I do.
Many thanks again John
Could it be your Firewall or some other security setting ? There's obviously a 'block' between you and SC.
I'm sure one 'the experts' will mosey along real soon and get you up and running in a flash :D
Sorry I couldn't help.
Hey there Invisible Man. I'm very interested to see that although you visited my site and signed my Guestbook (for which I thank you most sincerely), my Stats show no such activity. It maybe that they need time to propogate but I doubt it. Anyway, it's been long enough now.
I've just checked your sites again (3:10) and they're still down. Remove the SC code until you can get a better handle on this problem .... at least your sites will be accessible, which they're not now. :D

Your firewall, security and/or privacy settings block this. Look around.

I appreciate your response, and I am eager to continue using the product ( see my comments above ). but .. I cannot jepordise the accessibility of my webs to others, and if I cant access my pages with the counters inserted there is no way I can assume that others can ?
I have turned off my firewall and turned down IE5 security to minimum, but find my pages load very slowly, and then do not show the counter icon.
I will persevere for a while, but this only started on Saturday, and I can only assume there has been some external change.

External change? not impossible, but more likely you've acquired MS patches, upgrades, updates to your security software, etc.

Whoah, hang on-
I'm having this exact problem myself, as well as three of my co-workers that run sites themselves. We've each tested each other's sites, and gone to a few other computers, too.
What about the general populace? I can't expect people who want to view my site to go into their host file and delete such a line.
At the same time, I have been having huge problems managing my account. I've tried it from a total of 6 different computers in three locations (yes, I'm being honest). Right now while I'm trying to manage my account, the main page tells me I'm still logged in, but when I click on the "projects" link, it never loads.
Nothing has changed on my computer (I'm pretty picky about that). What's going on?

I am having EXACTLY the same slow page loading ...and the the problem is intermittent too, making it worse to reslove.
Useless to me so probably gonna have to remove the code.
May I suggest you try Firefox rather than Internet Explorer.
BigJoe, have you re-installed the code? I ask because I couldn't access your site last night, and I can't access it now. You've either re-installed the code or there is something else going on that you're not aware of. This applies to both .com and .net.

webmaster-
This is in response to your request to know what spyware removal tools I'm using. (way above)
I do use firefox, so I rarely have to run them. I relatively new to statcouter.com, and I haven't run them since I joined (I think)
However, I have Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE 1.05 Personal, Spybot 1.3, and tried out Microsoft's beta Anti-spyware (didn't really like it, though).

Webmaster - I have re-inserted the code to my pages and all now seems well - icons are back whilst using your control centre and page loads are normal.
KDR22 - 'The Bees Knees' : perhaps closer to say I am a parent / gparent rather than that I recall them ;-)
Well done again on a great site :-D

Spybot could be blocking you - if you are using some of the advanced tweaks.
