View Full Version : IPs containing quote marks

My report is showing quote marks around the IP numbers - looks like your data transport has perhaps some doubled quotation marks so the extra one shows up in the report.
Also, my numbers for yesterday show over 500 hits by perhaps one person using the pages from their cache - yet that person appears only to have loaded about 40 pages according to the "visitor path" portion of the report. Is this going to skew my normal results if they are continuously loading my pages all day from their cache?
Also I am continuously getting people for whom the routine does not locate any IP at all, not even a state - it will just record "United States" - how does this happen and where can I get some!? :) These people are trackless - are they using a black hole-type anonymizer or something?
Thank you,
Shiela

Where do you get quotation marks in your IP addresses? In which stats report?
You won't know from your stats if they load from cache or by access to your server. The counter script executes as soon as the page is displayed anyway no matter if it's from cache or from an access to the server.
Your individual stats can only show details based on the log contents, i.e. recen page loads. This is limited in number to yoru log size. For the free servcie that's 100. So if the summary shows 500 pageloads for a day, you won't see all of tehse anywhere - you will at most see 100 for any one visitor, and the total will be 100 for all visitors.
You will get an IP address for every hit to your page - not necessarily correct (if they use a proxy) but you won't actuall yknow that. There's not always an ISP with a name behind the IP address, so the ISP field may show in it the same IP address because this is how it translates. Details of country and so on are not always available for all IP addresses out there.

===========
Visitor path report and if I drill down on the magnifying glass to find out who a user is. Today most of the host-names are like this:
(Midland Walwyn Capital Inc" "3341496576)
(Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program" "2725724416)
Also, this one (lo3-cf9a4782.dia.impulse.net) always has the location info with it (since it's my girlfriend I watch it) of Lompoc, CA and now it's not showing that.
It looks to me like someone put an extra quotation mark in the routine, which is for the most part eliminating the location data from my reports.
The address is www.e-Citadel.com if you want to look at the reports. I understand about AOL cache making it impossible to pinpoint someone, but I am getting a LOT of no-locations all of a sudden.

Yes, I do know from my reports if they load from the cache or the server, because the reports listing "referrer" or "referred by" is a hot link which shows if they came from a mail message, from another website (in which case the URL is supplied) - and I am assuming a person is looking at their cache copy when the referrer is listed as "C:\Windows\Desktop\Ankara%20High%20School\tm~1234 - when I click on it it doesn't go to MY desktop, it goes nowhere because it's THEIR desktop.
I see that someone from statcounter in Ontario was looking at my page already today -so you know already that my titles are looking all weird. I can't give you an example of this cache thing because the person who was doing that has already dropped off my report.

Yes, I understand and agree - I will not see more than 100 page-loads; but I do look at yesterday's data and see a total of almost 650 page-loads, which is about 6 times higher than my normal and inexplicable unless someone who is not me (my hits are not counted) is sitting there just loading the same pages over and over and over again. I don't know about you, but I think this is very weird.

I understand and agree. I will come back and check later to see if you have responded again. Thank you - I hope you will take a close look at the difference between the 'Visitor Path' reports I am showing today and those that I have always seen before - don't know if you can go back on the logs and look but that would help you to see there is definitely something wrong with the code here in reflecting no IP hostnames and very few locations.
Thanks again,
Shiela

For some reason today everything is fine - whatever y'all did, thank you!
I am seeing full IP numbers AND full hostnames, full paths, no extra quote marks - maybe just a "hiccup."
Thanks for your time and effort sleuthing this... you can close this ticket.

It wasn't me - I don't work here LOL!
But it may have been specific to the server where you have your project, as I haven't seen anything strange in my projects and they are scattered on several servers.
