View Full Version : Public Stats Display Settings

Hello-

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a "feature," but here's my situation:

I check my stats many times a day - for convenience, I just have links to my public stats, rather than having myself sign in to StatCounter every time. However, when viewing public stats, I can't seem to make the "Save as Default" feature on the display settings work correctly - when I come back, it's back to the new standard of 7-day bar graphs, instead of the 30-day area graphs I like. If I actually sign in, the "Save as Default" works fine - but I don't want to sign in a billion times a day!

Soooo, is something not working correctly here, or is the new system designed so that "Guests" can't save custom display settings?

Thanks, and by the way, this is a great service!

That makes sense to me. Saving the settings requiress write access to the owner's account. The owner obviously has that permission, but guests cannot have write access permissions, it would be a mess. Anyone can be a guest, which guest's settings should prevail at any one moment? yours, mine, somebody else's? What if we both are trying this at the same time?

Why don't you just stay signed in? It's a lot easier, unless you delete your cookies all the time.

Well, it seems to me that display settings for guests should work in one of two ways:

1) The owner sets the display settings, which are then applied to himself AND any guests that might view the stats. However, this is not the case; I've changed the settings as the owner, but those settings don't get applied to guest-viewable stats.

2) The settings are saved in a cookie, which would mean that as long as I'm using the same computer to view guest stats, I could save my settings. This isn't the case, either - if I close my browser, open it again, and go to the stats, they're back to the style I don't like.

As for your specific recommendation to stay signed in all the time - well, how do I do that?? I never delete cookies, but if I close my browser, it doesn't seem that I can go back to my account without having to sign in again.

Thanks for any help!

Well then your browser is deleting cookies for you automatically. Check your settings.
