Lately I have refering URLs that when i ckick on them give me and error 404 page not found error.
I.E
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=1 million dollar poker tournament&cp=1252&FORM=MYMSNH&PI=7317&DI=3454

This is copied exactly (including spaces, from the refering page line)

Only the refering URLS that start with search.msn.com return the 404 erros.

Can anyone exlain why this is? I like to click on those and see what search terms are being used to find the site. I havent seen the 404 errors before ( in over 18 months of use ). I recently cleaned out the host file due to some issues and wonder if that had something to do with my problem. I am not having any other problems at all.

The reported link and associated query string may have been truncated if it was too long.

Have you tried looking at the Keyword Analysis / Recent Keyword Activity stats?

Here is another one, this from google. retty short, dont think truncating is the issue.

Anyone have any idea?
And yes i have checked the Keyword Analysis / Recent Keyword Activity.
I still like to see the page that i was linked from
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=gotbonus.com&btnG=Google Search&meta=

Look in keywords stats, Recent pageloads and Came from.
But the page you're linked from is the Google or MSN search page.

No one has any idea wht statcounter is suddenly doing this? I have had the same code up for over a year, and have ALWAYS been able to click the "refering link" link to take me to the exact page the visitor came from.....
Why now am i getting 404 errors?

Please open a support ticket because I don't see this behaviour. Some query strings may get truncated making the full referer at times unreachable, but other than that it's not something that occurs all the time.

It was a corrupted hosts file.
Resaved a clean one and problem solved.
