View Full Version : View your Recent Visitors on a Google Map

You can now view your recent visitors on a Google Map. Click on a marker and you will be given all that user's details. This can be found under "Recent Visitor Map" in the left side menu with the rest of the stats options.
I hope you enjoy!

A little left over at the bottom:
Pages (2): [ [1] 2 ]
Show Page URL not Title
That would be from basing this page on Recent Vistors activity I suppose.
In fact I see where the page number comes in - it ould be nicer to put all on one map - but probably harder to accomplish programmatically.

This is a great feature! Perhaps it's just my connection but page two of my results came up a blank page. I tried it twice. I'm sure the very competent programmer behind this site can fix it fast, if indeed there is an issue. Just thought I'd mention it. :-D

For some reason I can not get it to work. I load it and there is white space where the map should be. It seems as if it is attempting to load a google ad . I got it to work once by refreshing it but have not had any more success. There is no error message. The map just doesn't load.

Great idea, but -----
I have 3 sites using the counter, of which 2 display visitors on the maps correctly, but 1 doesn't, and it's the one I am most interested in !
The centre of the page goes blank and a script error is shown. On viewing the script code the errors are on line 13 char 1 and line 368 char 476.
If admin want to check this out please PM or preferably email me and I will give you the details to log in.

Thanks for adding this. I used StatCounter on the Google Maps Mania blog (gmapsmania.com) and I was quite excited to read you have added this feature. Could I ask your API developer to possibly give the option to switch to satellite view in the map interface? Currently you have just street map view on and satellite view will help in countries with no street maps. Thanks! :)

hi, I welcome the new feature add on. But seriously speaking, as a paying customer, we expect such innovation to come from statcounter more frequently. Been long waiting for new add-on, especially the ability to track ecommerce store.
I apologise for the delays in adding other features. We are working tirelessly to constantly improve the service to give you what you demand and deserve. I'll see what we can do about getting this much-in-demand feature out there.

One improvement I'd like to see is a user-settable date range. I had a spike in traffic at the end of May, and I'd like to see a map for just that day. For that matter, the map says "recent traffic." What's the default date range?
Cheers.

There is no date range for the detailed stats. What you see in the map is the same as "Recent pageloads" stats, and cover whatever is in the log at the time you see it. The log is allways the most recent 100 pageloads (hits) for the free account or 1000+ whatever you have for a payed account. The time range can be one hour, one or more days, or a week, depending on how many visitors and pageloads you get and what account you have.
Only the summary show historical stats for total visitors and pageloads, from today back to the first day when you started using the counter.

Hi Kelly,
I'm aware that you can zoom once you have clicked the visitor's pointer, the trouble is when you have a large number of pointers in a small cluster it is hard to click on a specific one...

Well for a very sparsely populated area this may be the case, but in general the datacenter is sufficiently close geographically - but yes, 100 or 200 miles may be reasonable. For a big city it may be actually really close, within the metropolitan area.

I'll guess you can, but normaly the ISP must have a datacenter fairly close to you. Talking AOL however, I have understand that they have several datacenters all around US, and a AOL user in US can be connected to any of them insted of the closest one?
My ISP is located i Stockholm, about 1000 miles (100 km) from where I live, but I am allways connected to their datacenter here in Luleå, only 10 miles from where I live. Now I know even the street address where the datacenter is! :-D

I wish I could adjust, however, how many of my recent visitors appear on a map, at a time. It appears to only show about 10 or 20 on the map. I'd be more interested to see the last 100 on the map at a time.
Is there a tunable parameter that I don't know about?

I've used several other visitor mapping applications and none of them have resorted to using pages. I understand that if there are thousands of markers it can slow down the map greatly, but GeoMap (http://www.zipwise.com/geomap/) from ZipWise puts 100 markers on a single map and it works just fine.
Can the paging feature be disabled? I'd really like to just use StatCounter but I want to see all 100 visitors on one map. Thanks.
webado
09-01-2006, 04:13 PM
Well thsi was just very recently implemented as an add-on to Recent Visitors - so it uses the same paging structure as that.
Hoepfully it can be adapted, but it may take a bit of time.
thlayli
09-01-2006, 09:42 PM
Cool, no rush of course. While poking around I noticed this message on the Recent Visitors page: "Does this page load slowly? Reduce the number of results per page by clicking "My Profile" in the top navigation bar."
I tried changing that number but it still seems to display only 10 results per page. Is this a limit of the free accounts, or a limit coded into the page?
Anyway, thanks for helping to introduce the new feature. It's great even with these limitations. I'm sure it'll improve with age.
