From time to time I come across someone who has installed one of my pictures on their own site. I usually register to whatever web space system it is ... myspace, multiply, livejournal, etc ... and try to contact the offender with a polite request that they take it down. It can be time consuming and is sometimes greeted with animosity.
So, I've found it has happened again but this time I am making no attempt to have the image removed. Instead I have renamed the image on myweb site and replaced the original one (http://www.jwjonline.net/images/monkey2.jpg) with this one (http://www.jwjonline.net/images/monkey.jpg). Might as well make the bandwidth pay for itself eh? ;)

LOL! I guess that "policy" is even better than to replace the original with a "dirty" picture.

At first I thought it was your picture that people have been "stealing" and I was thinking, hmmm, JWJ is so popular and lots of people find him so goodlooking that they save and paste his photo on their sites.
Following your thread, I thought for a while, that you replaced YOUR IMAGE with that cute little monkey . . . which I also find so goodlooking and cute . . .
Finally, a light lit up and suddenly I realized what you have done. That was really good. People will either refrain from "stealing" your picture or take it anyway and your site gets advertised.
CT, you realise you've opened the door for those bloody Aussies to spew forth with a myriad of comments along the lines of "Oh, are you saying it isn't a picture of JWJ?". Well, that's ok cus everyone knows it's not a picture of me ..... I ain't nearly as cute as that little monkey. ;)

The first time I did anything like this was against a forum owner. Me and him had been bantering for a while over his overly rude refusal to let me promote my footie predictions on his site. In the end he went too far and posted a picture of me that he'd found on my site and invited other members to join in a "Caption of the Month" competition. Initially I felt ridiculed but then I spotted that he'd hotlinked to the picture rather than copy it. It took me only a matter of minutes to replace that photo with this (http://www.jwjonline.net/images/J2a.jpg). The forum owner and I found mutual respect and he allowed the banner to stay until after the tournament and even permitted a link in my sig. I'm hoping he's going to let me promote the cricket one now.
