I promise I will stop doing this but I am so chuffed with this....

http://www.pagez.co.uk/zgraph.gif

Thats a new record for uniques for me! 2775 in a day! I know its only 11 o clock at night around these parts, but it has really slowed off and I don't think that I will get a fat lot more traffic up to midnight but basically

WooooHooooo!!!!!

Cheers

Just amazing . . . You should open a little kiosk within your gamesite and sell something . . . With all that traffic you are getting, selling will be easier . . .

How did you get that many hits:?:

I honestly don't know. I built the site originally for the kids that I teach. Last October as an experiment I started to promote it including posting on education forums about it (I got hammered !) and I signed up for adsense and adwords.

the audience is kids (although I do know that it is a hit with quite a lot of adults too) so CT's idea for a shop is not the way I want to go as I don't think that my audience visit my site to buy anything.

However, I do think that it would be a rich source of hits for someone who wants to avertise something of interest to a young audience - mini bikes, ipods, phones and the like.

The traffic is however still growing as last nights final figure of 2831 unique demonstrates. In that past I have got quite a personal kick out of sharing with the statcounter members my site hitting new targets. 1 million pageloads was a big one for me - however I analyse my logs and it shows that at current rates, my site will achieve 1 million pageloads every three months!

So I am sorry if I can't be more informative about the source of traffic. Some time ago on this forum, other members suggested that it may be word of mouth, msn and the like - I suspect this may be right.
It certainly isn't anything to do with ranking in gargoyle, W3 compliance and stuff like that though....

Well, whatever it is that you've done (and still doing), it must be good, with your traffic hitting skyhigh all the time.

Interesting stuff traffic..... I think that I must hit my target audience with some fair degree of accuracy because over the weekend the traffic halves. Last weekend I got just over 1250 unique on Saturday and a litlle under 1100 unique on Sunday. Today - at about 7.15 in the evening, I am headin up towards the 2000 unique again. I put this all down to school kids. They get to play on ot a little bit at school, then when they get home they play on it a little more. As the weekend there's other stuff to do. I have started noticing a little traffic from the states on the evening just lately though - again I suspect a school as I have got 140 pageloads from one IP address....

That's really impressive - in six months too! Mine's only been up just over a month & I dream of ever attracting that sort of traffic!

it would be nice if google analictics and the other tracker i use would track my uniques correctly....

I'm getting well cheesed at there inaccuracy..

google - reckon only 551 so far this month
other tracking method - reckons only 966 so far this month
My Awestats - gives 3304 so far this month

A big discrepancy and no it's not bot exclusions - I have them beggars well and truly banned.

The only stats result that tally with my blog system stats are Awestats,

So proof finally that google has been robbing me of page views and possible clicks...

I'm getting to the bottom of this (slowly) but I'm getting there and I'm none to happy about it....

btw as well - I have 15 bots hitting my site is all (Google being the greediest pig bandwidth wise) - they are however excluded from other charts - like uniques. Average this month being 6-700...

Thats adding up to 90% of my traffic being ignored by google and that means it probably adds upto 90% of my add clicks being ignored as well...

No wonder I can't make a couple of quid...

I thought I would add my traffic results. I'm no where near Neil's dizzy heights but in the last 2 months my traffic has grown. As I have done very very little in the last few months I have no what has happened, maybe I was meddling too much :). The majority of my traffic seems to come from google, which is brilliant as I don't pay for any advertising.

Month Page Loads Unique Visitors First Time Visitors Returning Visitors
Mar 2007 11,929 2,027 1,574 453
Feb 2007 9,907 2,052 1,663 389
Jan 2007 1,072 415 336 79

The March figures are only up until about 5 minutes ago so it looks like I will double what I achieved in February, which itself was a lot higher than January.

No idea why, did think it was to do with the fact i've discovered the .com of my main url is now a **** site but most of the traffic seems to enter the site at different pages. So who knows, maybe the google fairy has just taken a shine to me. Now I should clean the site up, I realised some of the pages weren't finished the last time I tried to tidy things up!

All the best.
Michael.

I think Neil of Pagez is the one to speak to, he hits about a million every few months.

I have thought about selling links on my front page. But I think that my gargoyle page rank is too low (2) so I don't know how I could market it. I know that there is a definate resource for someone to use (today 34800 page loads from 2980 users with 40 mins left to play....) but how you let them know it is there is one thing I have no idea about...

With that kind of traffic you should be able to sell some ads, I don't think the google PR should make any difference. Did you take a look at text-link-ads, although IIRC they rate using the Alexa rating (another dubious rating system), maybe we need someone set up selling advertising using statcounter records ;).

All the best.
Michael.

Alexa? - don't get me started.... I posted a thread about them earlier this week. I cannot believe that with my traffic I only warrant a ranking of over 1.100,000 - so if its that inaccurate - whats the point?
Maybe your right - if there was a compamy that worked on your stacounter stats or even you analytics stats, that would make more sense. Its an obvious idea and I am sure that someone must be doing it....

Anyway - last night ended up with 3006 unique and 35029 pageloads..... another record. I hope you guys with links on my front page are getting a little of this traffic....

Cheers
Neil:grin:

So here's the question for you chaps and chapesses. How do I turn this traffic into a bit of cash? Google adsense reckons I had 15000 ish impressions yesterday - 121 clicks producing a miserly $8.50.... I have been looking a the stats and the one that has really rattled my cage is that if yo look at the last 30 days option, I have had 498,000 page loads - so half a million sometime today!! I fthat kind of traffic can't make decent money then we all might as well pack in! So come on you lot - whats the secret cos it certainly isn't adsense!

Neil, I sometimes think to much content is the problem with google adsense, for example a game site like yours normally has ads for games (no really!). However if you have thousands of games on your site (or simply content that the visitor wants) then why would they leave! Thus no clicking on the ads.

I think thats given me an idea, ummmmm. Need to get my thinking cap on, but i'm taking the children swimming today so it won't happen until later :).

All the best.
Michael.

Ooops forgot to mention Alexa, it is terrible. Its not a very good indication of a popular site as it only measures visitors that have their toolbar installed and there is no point in having their toolbar installed unless you want to know your Alexa rating! Therefore the only people that I can see using it would be people with websites, most children and schools wouldn't have it installed where I know most of my traffic originates from and i'm sure a lot of yours does.

All the best.
Michael.

Sorry to resurrect your thread NeilB but I just wanted to share with you that had finally reached more than 1000 unique visist (which by the way resulted in 5 big orders)!!!

I remembering saying a year ago that I would be in cloud 9 when the 1000 unique visits happen!

While I am happy that it did (last Monday - its back to 650/700/800 daily) I wish I can move it up to a steady number.

I really did not do anything special:confused: Maybe the years of being e-there helped . .

That is awesome China Tea.

I think you made the best decision staying hooked up with Yahoo Shopping.

Do you ever consider integrating some items into ebay auctions? It could drive even more visitors to you both ways.

Nomad,

If you ever figure out the Google issue, please post it. It counts about 50% of the traffic Statcounter says I am getting. We do have a video site, and the page can load slower than some websites. Our statcounter code is at the top of the page to avoid the page loading issues, but the google code is at the bottom of the page (it freaks out if you move it up). We figure the traffic numbers are in between the two, but I would really love to figure out if Google is under reporting or why Statcounter is so much higher.

DSL Guy

If this helps, StatCounter in some cases registers a bot visit. I would suppose this is taken into consideration of the difference in totals? I see it sometimes when MSN crawls or Googlebot crawls my site. SC will register them as visits. Adsense won't.
