Is it really possible that someone would want to stay on a site for over three or four hours? I get hits from Reston, Virginia and from various places in Georgia that do just that. Are they hot linking? I appreciate your help. Still loving your service!

Hi a,
If you have a site that people want to keep revisiting, then long visits are to be expected!

I've had some real weird stats regarding long visits...
Someone was on my site for 23 hours once
I can only assumed they forgot to turn theyre computer off!!!
I also have an obsscure little english village mentioned on my site where i did some work.. and someone from california did a search for this village and stayed on the site for 8 hours!!!
It seems its hard to predict peoples online habits..
The same as theyre offline habits i guess :-D
If your user is using Opera it is quite possible. I often leave windows open sometimes for more than 24 hrs. or until I get round to looking at the site in detail.
Regards
Ryss

The visit length itself doesn't tell the whole story. The number of pageloads involved and their time stamps complete the picture.
When you see a long visit, you should always check to see how many pages were loaded and when. You may find that maybe only 2 pages were loaded but sufficiently far apart to count as a long visit and close enough apart (within 24 hours of each other) to belong to the same visit.
Some people install a silly browser add-on that refreshes their browser every few seconds or minutes, and a hit is logged every time that happens too.
