My site: Durban Daily Photo (http://www.durbandailyphoto.blogspot.com) with counters called "Durban Daily Photo" and "Durban Daily Photo - Test" running side by side. The "Test" counter is the beta test and is called after the old counter on the page.

For the past few days, the old and new have had vastly different numbers - with the new number of hits being
much higher than the old.

The old counter seems to be consistant with the history on the old - i.e. the values each day are as expected given the type of visitors expected to my site.

Thursday 13th December 2007 11 9 8 1
Wednesday 12th December 2007 45 37 27 10
Tuesday 11th December 2007 82 36 30 6
Monday 10th December 2007 53 27 23 4
Sunday 9th December 2007 27 20 15 5

The new counter however is giving really strange results.
Thursday 13th December 2007 16 1 1 0
Wednesday 12th December 2007 82 6 6 0
Tuesday 11th December 2007 103 4 4 0
Monday 10th December 2007 29 21 18 3
Sunday 9th December 2007 27 21 18 3

While I expect there to be no correlation between the old and new on return visitors, the unique visitors and the number of page loads on each, should at least be in the same ball park.

My guess is that in the new counter a programming bug has crept into the system. The number of "unique visitors" now seems to hold the value for number of "return visitors".

Hope this helps.

Hey,

yesterday we've finished the last phase of SCv4 data storage layer - We hope now you'll get only the correct numbers! In any other case, feel free to report - thank you!

I am also running the SC4 in parallel to my existing counter (SC3 HHTML first, then SC4 HTML)... (see http://www.HL7.com.au/Skype.htm)

For some reason, I can only see SC3 numbers displayed on my web site, not SC4. I have re-checdked the SC4 counter setup, no luck :-(

Today at this time the totals are still off;

SC3 - SC4
717 - 821

Each of them miss visitors completely or miss some of the page loads.

SC3 - SC4
21 - 34
1 - 1
13 - 32
3 - 1
8 - 8
1 - 1
8 - 8
9 - 10
etc.

I think SC4 doesn't display when the text option is used. There seems to appear a js error.

Hello,

I've visited your page and examined the source code - finally I've located & fixed the bug in the SCv4 engine. Thank you for reporting this issue. Both text counters will show up now on your page well!

Oops, maybe not quite fixed yet...

As per my previous post, the SC4 counter has now appeared, but it is showing the monthly total rather than the overall total.

Please check: www.HL7.com.au/Skype.htm (http://www.HL7.com.au/Skype.htm) (bottom of page)
Should be 83,0xx - but is 5xx :(

Isn't that the total since you started usign the new project counter? or at least since it "got fixed" ?

webado, its the "This Month" total as per the "My Projects" overview ...

I had set the counter value to the same as the SC3 counter on that page some days ago to check the tracking.

The scripts have been changed pretty much daily so older data would not be that correct. I suggest you look only at the last day until the script stabilizes.

Yesterday was a perfect day.

SC3 - 624

SC4 - 624

I did notice that the SC3 stats had lagged by a couple of hours at one point, but by the end of the day they were tied.

How very sad :( In the first 9 hrs of the day, I've had 0 visitors to my site according to both SC3 and SC4.

While this could well be correct and people have just not visited, I'd much rather you tell me the reason is because of a glitch in the code ;-). Although it is strange that SC3 would also be affected.

While it's not a high traffic site, I normally have a minimum of 10 by this time of the day. Yesterday's total for the whole day was 64, so I'm posting this because it's a deviation from the trend over the recent past.

The only change on my site was to add another post, no changes to settings/templates/widgets etc.

If there is indeed a problem with the code, then I hope this helps.

Hello Crazycow

If you ever suspect that visits to your site are not being counted, just temporarily remove your blocking and visit your site yourself. Then check your stats. Then re-block yourself.
