View Full Version : Stats are different

I've been a Beta Tester for SC4 since it was introduced this past fall. I've noticed differences in my stats.

For example, the original code may reflect 5 visitors. The Beta code will reflect 2 or 3.

Is anyone else receiving stats similar to what I am experiencing?

Yes I am seeing that on occasion. Sometimes it's right on, sometimes it's off quite a bit.

They are still tweaking it to get it right on.

I noticed it too! It's why I signed up here - just to check it wasn't just me! I realised the new one is lower. Does this mean my site hasn't been as successful as I thought?!

Thanks for reporting this issue.

The StatCounter SC3 system is a very reliable, well tested and very accurate system. You can take the counts from SC3 to be by far the most accurate. We are aware of the new SC4 system not recording as much data and we are working on improving this. When we are finished the SC4 system will be even more reliable and accurate than SC3.

Please bear with us as we continue to work this out, and post back with your findings.

I had been taking the stats count from SC3 as the 'true' count until today, when I opened (for the same project) the SC3 stats visitors paths page and SC4 test visitors paths page and compared them, visitor by visitor.

(For this particular project/test, SC4 has always shown a higher number of visitors; for different test/project, SC3 has and does always show a higher number -- i.e. the reverse of the other one.)

So today, being bored but not feeling like doing actual work, I decided to have a closer look at the differences.

When comparing the visitors paths, I was surprised to see that SC4 (higher count) shows what appears to be legitimate visitors, with all the associated data, who do not show up at all on the SC3 version.

For example, a visitor from Ireland with several page views on SC4 did not show up at all in SC3, ditto for visitors from US, UK, Dubai.

So while you work away on perfecting the new statcounter, I will be more than happy to claim the SC4 higher count as the true one :-)

A visitor may be blocking images (so detection) from a certain Statcounter server but not others.

Thanks for explaining that - never occurred to me :-)

It seems to have settled down today - the numbers are almost identical in both projects.

Seems to blow hot and cold. For awhile the two were pretty much in sync, but over the last few days SC4 has been missing a few each day:

Project Name-------------Type--------Today------Yesterday------This Month
HJC Test-----------------Standard---------9--------31-------------486
Heights Jewish Center-----Standard--------11--------32-------------502

Thanks for the feedback folks. Keep it coming. We're working really hard to make SC4 into the most reliable and accurate stats system in the world. Even better than SC3 if possible!

There is a known issue with SC4 and why it is reporting less hits than SC3 at the moment. We are working very hard on this, and hope to have it resolved in the next few days.

I have noticed that the SC3 and SC4 stats are the same at the start of the day when the page loads are less than 20, but as time goes on the stats get further apart until at end the day SC4 are about 50% less than SC3.
