View Full Version : exit link/download stats and the magnify icon

Hi folks,
We've just pushed out a change to the sc4 beta.
The exit link and download stats use a different log to the standard pageview log normally available with SC3. This means there may be some exit link data available about a visitor that has long since been overwritten in your standard pageview log.
If this is the case the 'magnify' option for that exit link/download will be removed.
Let me know how you get on with this improvement.
thanks!

Dear Aodhan,
I guess it would be more usefull to have the blocking IP address also working for your exit links. Cause I indeed found out that several of the exit links were my own entries/exit links, so from the blocked IP-addresses.
Otherwise, if it's not one of your blocked IP's I guess people still want to know from which IP-address the exit link came from:confused:

Hello,
We've added the blocking IP support for the exit links traffic too - thank you for testing the new StatCounter system!

Thanks,
But it looks like it is not working (yet), it is still showing when I myself use an exit link!

Hi everyone in the best stats place!
I have installed the code on a few pages (haven't had time to do them all yet) but nothing lists under the exit links stats at all.
I have hit them myself on the website and although my pages are counted the links aren't.
Am I correct in presuming that the exit links are those that take my visitors to a linked site OUT of mine? Outbound links? Sometimes I wish I had the time to learn more...
Cheers
Deb :-D

Hi
Your code looks fine. I visited your home page and clicked a few Exit Links in your Transport section. My IP starts with 75

I've visited too and hit a couple of exit links.
Keep in mind that links going through javascript won't get counted - so anything to a Google Adsense ad and similar won't get detected.

Thanks so much guys
I was not aware that JS affected the stats. I will have to look into that - I may just be doing much better than it appears! :-D
The left nav (the transport link) I don't think is run by Java, but not being the designer I am not 100% certain. I have checked the code on the page and there are a few java scripts that I can place to other elements on that homepage but none that I can see pertain to that section.
The link I tried was on the gig guides pages in the centre table (Toukley RSL) it definitely has no JS attached to it but still doesn't show the exit link as registering...
I have not blocked myself so I ought to register as a "normal" visitor.
Thanks again for your time and your generous assistance.
You ARE brilliant
Deb

Once again the Statcounter team and the forum have surpassed all expectations!
I tried a few different things after reading the swift responses from Christina and Richard.
Javascript has been affecting the exit links and this news has given me an opening to change a few items so the wonderful Statcounter Website can give me a more accurate reading of my visitors (and lots more work)
The SC4 (for my needs) is a great new service and I will support it all the way.
I am not well versed in the running of a website and although Statcounter is under no obligation, their professional and knowledgable support has been of great benefit to me.
Thanks again to everyone.
best wishes
Deb :)

That gig page is not built the same way as the homepage.
In order to test the SC4 code while still having the regular code as well, you need to have the regular code first followed by the SC4 code. Or else use only the SC4 code.
Your gig page has them in reverse order.

Hi Christina
I did fix those instances and I have added SC4 to more pages (nothing is counting at the moment - time will fix that) but, I have noticed a dramatic DECREASE with my stats on SC3 since the problems with SC4. Way less than half the usual average recorded and less than half in comparison on the usual server stats.
could there be a linked problem there that the StatCounter team magicians need to look into do you think?
Has anyone else had this issue raised?
Again thanks for your assistance
Deb :)

Pure coincidence, unless you've not got the code correctly installed on all pages.
Generally I find (in my case) SC3 logs a bit less hits than SC4 when both are on the same page, assuming SC4 isn't having a nap.
Then there are people who find the opposite ;)
It all evens out in the end
There are more and more visitors with high security/privacy setttings who block all or some Statcounter subdomains, thus occasionally being logged in one and not another, or none.
Just the way things are.
