Google has finally made a public announcement about the release of its own operating system.
Apparently it will boot up in 7 seconds! It will also be heavily reliant on on line-based applications (the future of IT in my opinion).
Should Microsoft be worried or not?

All applications are designed to run in a web browser and all the user's data is stored on Google's servers.
I had to check and see if it was April first. It wasn't so I'll pass.

If no internet access, no apps, no computer functions, no computer.
On the opposite side, running conventional operating systems, if I never used my computer on the internet, my computer would boot up very fast.
Case in point: two computers I bought - one without any internet or intranet access, a standalone to run certain apps only - the other with full up internet access. Running XP, the internet-free computer boots in 30 seconds, shuts down in 5 seconds. Running XP, the internet computer boots in 3 minutes, shuts down in 30 seconds or more. The difference? The internet pc needs to be running anti-spy anti-virus, etc. software, and needs to constantly check to see if there are any new security patches for the software it runs.
My Conclusion: if I didn't need to use a computer to get on the internet, it could run very fast.
Google's conclusion: if all you use the computer for can be done on line, it could run very fast.

However...
Two issues... Fast vs How much do you trust Google to hold it all on their servers?
Security is an issue no matter what... some say MAC's alleviate that but just hang in there for a while MAC users... virus creators are coming for you. ;-(
I have proof that even G mail is not secure at this moment. I have proof sitting in the account I have someone else's emails and they may have some of mine. Sometimes cellphone users send messages to someone else but they come into my in box. Images, messages, facebook account info... I have been saving it. None of it mine. and not meant to be spam either.
So... do you trust Chrome any more or any less than Windows? Linux? Does it matter? I don't know.
