Default Statcounter Figures

Is there anywhere on the SC where people say what stats they are getting for their websites?

For example the visitor length percentages.. i'm getting stats that say 61.5% of my visitors are leaving the site in less than 5 seconds. This seems really bad to me, but it may be about the average for websites..

It would be good if people posted the pecentages they are getting then we may be able to work out trends and things that could help us all..

Is there already something like this in place?

142Less than 5 secs 67.9%

17From 5 secs to 30 secs 8.1%

30From 30 secs to 5 mins 14.4%

12From 5 mins to 20 mins 5.7%

1From 20 mins to an hour 0.5%

7Longer than an hour 3.3%

Above are reported for my site, but then again I've almost nothing on my site to look at.

As you may know, the visit time depends on the visitor loading at least 2 pages (or a exit link with SC4) to give a more accurate visit time. The "problem" is that many visitors only look at one page and then hit the back button, close the browser or goes somewhere else that can't be detected by the counter.

One reason for visitors why visitors hit the back button, is if they come from a search engine result page and discover the result they get was not the right for them. So they go back and try an other link from the result page. Those visits shows as less than 5 sec.

I have an average of 1/3 of all visits as less than 5 sec. I think that the figures you get depends a lot on what kind of site you have. But not much to worry about, that's the life on Internet!

thanks Sharron. I never really paid much attention to it until now, but i guess it is important how long a visitor stays for. this isn't completely accurate as i only have the free SC which only goes back to the last 500 entries. I think i'm gonna upgrade though.

Visit Length
106 Less than 5 secs 58.7%
17 From 5 secs to 30 secs 9.4%
40 From 30 secs to 5 mins 22.2%
8 From 5 mins to 20 mins 4.4%
1 From 20 mins to an hour 0.6%
8 Longer than an hour 4.4%

yeah thats true Arne. But it would be interesting if by adding tweaks to the web page that tempts people to click a link to another page whether we can improve the time people stay on the site for...

Alexa gives you various stats, including pages per viewer which is useful.

From Shareworld statcounter stats:
265 less than 5 secs 48%
28 from 5-30 secs 5.2%
134 30-5 mins 24.7%
58 5-20 mins 10.7%
23 20- 1hr 4.2%
35 Longer than 1hr 6.4%

Whatever it is you will want it better!

there's alot of info on your page raysor.. i wonder if thats why you have quite a good percentage of people staying longer.. also if that headline you have "The Beginners Guide to Investing in Stocks and Shares" was a link i bet alot of people would click it first, so then you can log the time spent rather than just a 0sec..

Yes, of course! That's a good way to keep the visitors for a longer time, and also see that in the stats.

Have good initial info on the front page, but not to much! That's what bloggers suffers from, all of the latest posts are on the front page and the visitors don't need to go to any other pages.

Give a "teaser" (or more than one) with something that catch the eyes, with a link to an other page for the "the whole story". E.g. "Latest News" with a couple of lines, ending with the link to the whole news text.

Edit. Something you may want to consider: On your sites front page you have the head line a bit down "Affordable Promotion: Start Getting Your Business Noticed" and the full text about it is also there. Could it be better to move the headline up a bit and make it a link to a separate page with the content?

94 Less than 5 secs 64.8%
6 From 5 secs to 30 secs 4.1%
30 From 30 secs to 5 mins 20.7%
6 From 5 mins to 20 mins 4.1%
3 From 20 mins to an hour 2.1%
6 Longer than an hour 4.1%

From my 500, so varies during the day, but this is fairly typical.

yeah good point Arne i'm going to do a bit of jiggling.. and put little teasers enticing people to click links.. it'll be interesting to see if it improves my visitor length rates...
