Default Why do StatCounter stats not match Bloggers?

Just wondering, and this may have been covered before, why do StatCounter stats not match Blogger's? Which number should I actually pay attention to? It seems to be even worse today than usual.

Hi!

My understanding is this...

Blogger stats are based on all the traffic to your server (the computer on which your blog is stored).

StatCounter statsare based on all the hits to your blog.

Your server gets A LOT MORE traffic than your blog, because server traffic includes all the visits from robots, spambots, crawlers etc.

When a robot visits your site, this is recorded in your server logs. It's not a "true" visit since the page is not fully loaded, so it doesn't show up on StatCounter.

So server-side stats (like Blogger) will always appear inflated compared to online stats (like StatCounter) - but generally it is the online stats, the "true" visits that people are interested in. After all, it's these visits that might mean more sales, more sign ups etc.

I also understand that Blogger is *not* currently allowing you to add any third party codes to Blogger mobile sites. If you have opted to publish a mobile version of your blog, then Blogger is not including your StatCounter code on that site so these visits can't be tracked by StatCounter. (When Blogger fix this, StatCounter will track all the mobile hits for you also.)
