Default Can you steer me to the correct site?

I have a message board for my condo "nautiluscove.proboards.com/index.cgi" and also a blog site and I have a disruptive poster on the message board who is posting negative things about 2 people associated with our condo.

This person uses the visitor form for posting and has put up 6 posts using 3 different names. They do not realize that their IP address 70.154.247.84 is visible to me as the owner of the message board site. I am not interested in banning them, I need to know who is behind this.

This same IP address is found repeatedly on my blog site and shows up on my sitemeter for days, times and IP address (same as for the message board). I know the basic info that it is from Panama City Beach using Bellsouth . net. I believe that the poster is the Condo manager who is trashing an Owner and a Maint. man she had fired. All look ins on the blog site are M-F during normal office hours, on weekends when the office is closed - no look ins.

So my question is: Can I find out who is using their static IP address to post? I can get the Lat/Long but that isn't helpful I need to get hold of the address the computer is at. So can anyone out there give me some pointers on getting this info?

B. Harris, condo owner at Nautilus Cove

Gosh, used to live in Panama City proper and hang out on the beach once in a while. Not really possible to just figure out who this individual is as it is just against privacy. You might check out this link regarding forum rules.

This is all that can be known. If you want more information about that IP you will have to convince a Judge as to why you need to know.

IP Address ----- Country ----- Region ---- City -- ---- ISP
70.154.247.84 United States Florida Panama City Bellsouth.net Inc.

I started out at the Landmark Condo at 2100 Beach Blvd then purchased at NCC.

Nice enough IF it were run right, we have Concord Mgmt and they do a 'C' job and the CAM is pretty bad. Interesting thing in that the Posts on the message board are the same IP as those looking at my blog site and those posts are all during 'business hours' M-F, never on Sat-Sun (when the office is closed). I think it must be the CAM but without being able to find where that computer is housed it isn't something that I can really take up.

These services like bellsouth.net have the info as to exactly where the IP is located but it takes a subpeona to get that info. I know that due to having been sued once by a major retail chain for posting their Security Manual on a blog site. They issued 17 subpeonas for everyone they could think of and of course they got my home address. The case lasted 23 months, probably cost them quarter million and me nothing. I just ignored them and eventually it was tossed out due to inactivity on their part.

Hey, just noticed your from Vancouver, lived there twice but only a couple months each. First time was in the West End in a 7 story building just across from one that went up 20 or so floors. One day I was laying on the couch with my binoculars scanning that building and there was some guy looking back at me with his binoculars! One thing I noticed was how many hookers there were, on our quiet corner there were 4! Never spent any money on them but it sorta dressed up the area, who wants to look at trees all the time.

So unless there is some tech guy out there who knows how to pry loose addresses to go with IP addresses I guess nothing can be done.

Thanks Car Guy, seems that I am pretty much out of gas on this one, I couldn't come up with more than that myself but I just thought that probably someone younger and smarter than I am just might know some backdoor way to get the info.

Appreciate your looking at the problem!

Keep in mind that prices are now 40-50% at the condo from what they originally sold for so some reader here might want to get in on a good deal. If you have the $ it is a good time to pick up a foreclosure for less than half price. Eventually we will get a good management company in there.

Q) Can a lap top computer have a static IP address?

If a lap top is using a wi-fi set up will it have a constant IP address or will it get a new IP address every time it uses the wi-fi.

The wi-fi is going to be the same BellSouth.net connection each time the lap top uses it to accesses a blog or message board.

Would the IP address showing up on the blog site sitemeter or the message board be that of the lap top computer being used?

Or would being online with a lap top using the wi-fi be leaving the IP of the wi-fi?

Yeah, I know I should chill out and find something else to occupy my time, but someone is trashing 2 people at my condo on my message board and I would like to find out who it is, not just delete the posts and forget about it.

My initial thought was that the office computer was being used, but in checking messages known to be sent from the office I find a different IP address showing up so I thought since all the activity is during known office hours M-F and never on a Sat-Sun or July 4th that if it was not the office computer then perhaps a personal computer is being used with the condo wi-fi.

Where is Sherlock Holmes when you need him!!

Well,

I have a desktop computer and I use wi-fi to access the internet. It doesn't matter if I had a laptop or the desktop computer. I access the internet via wi-fi and it just happens to be the same IP address regardless of what computer I use to surf the net. My neighbors could access my wi-fi and they would have the same IP address.

I also have a dial-up I maintain, but on it I get a different IP address each time I dial in. The dial-up IP address's will fall within a range of address's though.

I suppose I could have the wi-fi and get a seperate IP address each time, but we're on a fixed IP address. Anyone can connect to my wi-fi and will have the same IP as I.

One good possibility for you as it seems your detractor has the same IP address is to figure out how to completely block that IP address. They'll just have a cow.

When I put in my complaint I had 3 people in mind as who could be doing those posts. I complained to one BOD member and the Reg Mgr of the main suspect and gave details to them as to the IP address being known by me and how.

So what one of them did was to forward the info to the main suspect. I almost had the cow. So not only have there been no more posts there have been no more 'look ins' on my blog site. Now that person is aware that she was leaving her IP behind each time she posted on the message board and each time she looked at my blog.

She isn't going to go back to my sites, at least not on that computer.

I appreciate your input on this. I don't see the matter going much further as the only thing that could be done now is for the Reg Mgr of the management firm to check the office computer to see if it has that IP address, if so he may not want to say that it was his employee making the posts.

If we suddenly have a new office manager then we know it was the CAM and they just quietly got rid of the old one for her underhanded activity. Perhaps peace and quiet will now return to Mudville?

Since you are from Ohio by way of Panama City, did you ever come across stories in the media about the internet gambling issue and people behind it? 5 units at our condo were bought by various Georgekopoulos family members, probably to hide some of their profits from the gambling business. Now that they got busted, all those units are now up for sale. I suspect we have seen the last of them paying their association dues, likely some Govt agency will grab up those units now. Details: http://georgekopoulos.blogspot.com/

Hadn't heard of that stuff. Did see a deal where a guy went nuts during a PC-Beach meeting for I think it was the city counsel.

Interesting though as the city in that blog is just down the highway about an hour and we have more than one of those internet cafe's here in town. No connections implied.

Gotta say Panama City was my favorite place to live.

=================================

I was first in PC/PCB 1964, went there with another Freshman from Chipola (Jr) College in Marianna. Took the bus. When looking for a condo in my retirement I looked in PC, rented there 7 mos then purchased in PCB.

If we ever get the condo taken in hand and get a decent Mgmt firm it might be OK. Now I am almost always in Ga, at home, and this year only 2 days at the condo. Last yr 20 days there. Unfortunately I paid cash or I would have just mailed in the keys and been done with it.

To much BS like this posting on my msg. board. I think it was the CAM as she was really POed at both the Owner and the Maint. guy she fired. Can't be to pointed in naming her as I can't 'prove' it was her.
