I understand how to make statcounter count pages and track the other stuff for a homepage and it is working great.
We have a website with several pages. How do we install the statcounter code so we can see what pages have what counts? In dreamweaver, we put the code in the footer of the template, which basically put it on every page. However this seemed to just increase the page count X every page that was hit, rather than tracking stats on each individual page that was hit. No doubt I'm missing something obvious. I have looked through the faq and help pages and probably missed, this. Could someone point me to the page where this is explained, or provide the help I need? Thanks! The page we're working on is http://www.westmichappraisal.com

You have to have different page titles on all of your pages in order to get a count by page. That's one of the problems with using templates...title tag is the same for each page.

Kathleen has this reply:
yes, but with dreamweaver templates you can easily give titles to your pages. Dreamweaver keeps the title editable by default - there is a separate area to enter the title into. btw, the title is what shows up in the top browser menu bar. So I think they're talking about another editing software, maybe frontpage? All her pages do have different titles. So I guess the question is this: Do you put the same javascript code right in the footer of the template? What is the normal way to do this? How is a project (website) used? One page I get and it works. But how do you set it up to track multiple pages of a website? Isn't there a FAQ already written up on this somewhere? Seems like a common inquiry. Thanks very much!!

Well the statcounter code just needs to be between the <body> tags and not any <frameset> tags you may have. However you have inserted it on the main page works fine so if that is the footer for that template then that should work for all the other pages.
Just put in the same code for the other pages of your site and you will be able to see them differentiated on the subpages but the main graph/Summary page it the total of all the pages hit. Hope that helps. EDIT: Kudos to the designer for very nice, clean code |

Ahhh! Now that is the answer I was hoping for! I thought it should be that easy.
Is there a way to get an individual page view count on each page? It seems like if we put the same code on each page, it would show the grand total for all page views at the bottom of every page. I'll pass on your compliments to Kathleen. She specializes in creating professional looking sites that quickly get customers the information they need without a lot of intrusive, flashy graphics, yet very inexpensively. Thanks again, Hugh

If you follow these steps when installing the code on the subpages then the counter will only be visible on the main page if that helps you. My Projects > Configure > Install Code (check the invisible counter box) |

Just to be sure I understand correctly, is this right?:
If I put the visible counter on the main page, and no counter code on the other pages, only hits to the main page will be counted. The subpages on statcounter.com for this project will only reflect info for the main page. If I put the visible counter code in the footer which goes on every page, then all page hits will be counted, but the grand total hits to all pages will display on every page. The subpages on statcounter.com for this project will have the info broken down by each page. If I put the visible counter code on the main page, and the invisible counter code on all other pages, then the counter on the main page will show the grand total hits to all pages, but will only display on the main page. The subpages on statcounter.com for this project will have the info broken down by each page. If I create a new project for each page with its own code, I could then have the proper page count on each page (but no one really does that.) Does that pretty well sum it up? Thanks for taking the time to make this clear! Hugh

The info will not be broken down by subpages apart from on the Popular page. Other then that what you said is correct.

Thanks for your patient help. Maybe you can turn this into a FAQ

I just wanted to update this by saying we have put an invisible counter on the http://www.kallenweb.com homepage, and it is SO cool to see where the last 100 people came from. We are getting 20 unique hits a day! Unfortunately none of them have turned into web design sales but statcounter is letting us see the traffic. Thanks so much for this service!
