Default This Avenue A thing started 8/19 for me...

I use IE; I did not upgrade to the Windows XP Service Pack 2; I am aware that Avenue A tracks for many pop ups; I use SpyBot and it is not set too high; The current Ad here at Statcounter is for Salazar for congress (man, politics are now MORE annoying). There is a pop up window and also a full page add for Salazar; Blocking Avenue A is not effecting any other site I visit at this time. And the problem started 8/19 - I believe the second day these ads started appearing here.

The problem I am having is that Statcounter will NOT load after I block (or NOT block) Avenue A. I had a heck of a time just getting to the message boards! So, I think there is something in the Salazar/Avenue A add that is causing a problem.

Since my "computer guru" is on vacation, I couldn't change any settings even if I wanted to as suggested in the other Avenue A thread.

I have no idea if this information will help, oh wise WebMaster, but I hope so. I, for one, absolutely LOVE Statcounter and I recommend it every chance I get. I can't stand pop ups, but I do understand your need for revenue. If I weren't broke, I'd pay for this service

Thanks for your time,

You may want to also install a pop-up killer of sorts. I use the Google toolbar which installs easily into IE and it will block most pop-ups that bring along other pests. I will allow pop-ups from Statcounter though and other trusted sites of my choice.

You can get it from http://toolbar.google.com .

There is one feature you may want to disable in it, that is relative to Google tracking you - just say no, thanks to that.

In addition Adaware ( www.lavasoft.de ) can get rid of adware left behind on your pc, making Spybot's job easier.

SpywareBlaster is a free add-on which Spybot recommends you install as well.

Since I've had all those things installed I've not had any problem with Avenue A, Doublclick or any of the other crap. Sure, Spybot will ask every time if I want to block Avenue A or Doubleclick - I just say yes, I want to block them and that's that.
