Default My review about jwjonline.net

This is a website that many of us know how it had been changed and renovated for good. That's why I didn't suggest major changes, but I've found a few practical tips to improve.

Feel free to take a look, as you may find useful tips for your website.

I should add a note that in the last couple of days my dsl conection is broken (which is something that pissed me off... but technicians are working on it), so I have to use dial up, and in the positive side this made me see things from another point of view: websites that use to load in seconds, now takes a lot longer, and websites that use pictures and graphics may take forever, this is specially important to improve for example in a page that has about 400KB of graphics! All of us should do a good review of our own graphics since this could make a difference in the time that our visitors stay in our wepages (and that's why http://www.fixmysite.tuguiaonline.com is not using that many graphics).

Now, I've receiving great feedback about my site and I want to let you guys know that I'm very happy that my tips are helping you in any or other way, I like to review websites that are already running online, but some of the e-mails ask me for help to build their sites from scratch, since this way they don't have to work twice. Well, if you believe that would be good idea to open a section for this, please feel free to send me your feedback or inquires about it by e-mail, as many of you know, I am not in anyway an expert in codes, but would be happy to asist you as best as I can.

Finally, I invite you to participate in the poll to find out what kind of info are you interested most.

Victor,

I have just read your review of my site for which I thank you most sincerely. You have understood my requirements, appreciated what I have done so far, and provided me with the constructive advice I need to take the next step.

To your suggestions I comment as follows:-

A friend DID advise me of the potential problems between jwjonline.net and jwjonline.com. I did not ignore that advice, but was stuck to find a site name that I was happy with. I had to choose between risking this potential problem, or finding another name. So far it has not been an issue, but if it is then I shall have to change names ... the other guy was here first, and I respect that.

As part of my next phase of development I have begun reviewing my titles .... some of them are simply 'left behind' from the old site. However, I freely admit that I would have simply updated them along previously used lines rather than use them to attract visitors, and I take on board everything you have said in that regard.

Having a "What's New" section on my home page is something I have played with, but it upset the overall balance and appearance of the page. It is something I would like to do, but I need to find the right way. I will come back to this later.

What I was most interested in is download times. I always use broadband and had not realised some of my pictures took so long to download. I will look very hard at what I can do to reduce image sizes. As you suggest, I may need to use thumbnails, perhaps opening to a larger image when selected. But whatever I do, I accept that people are not going to sit and wait for a page to slowly unfold before them.

All of your other suggestions are equally well received and I will action every one of them. (except maybe the 'mug-shot' ... I'm trying to keep visitors, not drive them away)

By-the-by, miscellany is to miscellaneous, what generosity is to generous. It has the added meaning of an anthology of short literary pieces, poems, ballads, etc.

Thanks again for the review.

This is one heck of an excellent use of Frontpage however, it looks like you've nicely avoided the pitfalls that so many fall into when relying on WYSIWYG editors. Nice site, John, really nice.

Oh, and I'm sure the lawyer JWJ won't mind being paired up with you. He could do lots worse, you might have been an online fleamarket or worse

Totally agree chrisooc! hence the use of the smilie....

It is probably the best I have seen in the use of FP ...far better than when I used it when I first started out. ^_^
