Default page loading slowed to a crawl

I have found that recently my sites' pages were loading so slowly as to be unusable. After investigation I had to remove statcounter code to re-enable my sites functionality.
I DO hope this is a temporary measure - and can I be notified when it is safe to insert the counters again?

You may want to move the counter code to the bottom of the page so it's the last thing that eneds to load. If it shoudl happent that the server is slow or down, it shouldn't prevent the rest of your page from loading.

Any numer of things can cause slowdowns when you're linking to scripts or images frm other servers, nor all of them the fault of Statcounter. Often it is due to conditions on the network in general, ISP's and all that.

oOps , so sorry to kick of my 'life' on the forum with a moan .
I think your product is the Bees Knees and have told the same to everyone who will listen
..As this has problem has only arisen over this weekend, I presumed it was a temporary glitch. I have the counter at the bottom of my entry page, but the page refuses to load for 2 mins , then loads completely without the counter showing at all. Since removal - loading is instant.

Try re-installing the code and see if it slows down again. Get 'fresh' code just in case a gremlin crept into your last cut & paste ... you never know.

No good. I can't get either your .net or .com pages to open. The only thing I can say is that if this effected everyone we'd have heard about it.

Take the code out again and let's see the page when it's working properly.

Thanks for your help.
Oh dear - 4e4.com has the code removed 4e4.net hasnt. From my pc .com loads ok but .net is delayed and then appears without a counter, although the code is present.
I have restarted IIS services in the meantime - could I trouble you to compare them again?

They both work fine now.

I'm not technical and hopefully someone with better knowledge than me may be able to offer a suggestion. One thing I did notice was that your IP address shows in your source. Forgive what may be a stupid suggestion, but is it possible you've put your IP address into Statcounter to stop logging your own hits, and somehow managed to lock yourself ???? just guessing

As an adendum, and perhaps a clue if anyone else suffers this problem - the icons alongside 'my projects' in the statcounter control center appear blanked with crosses. I notice a similar report in another thread.
