When I block my IP-address, I get no hits at all from anywhere. When I remove the block I get hits, and it counts unique visitors adequately. I have it set for 24 hours. Can anyone tell me why the counter is doing this? Last edited by celsior; 11-21-2005 at 11:19 PM. |

I see nothing in the Statcounter code you have to indicate this. Maybe you are getting no hits except from yourself.
You have a couple of validation errors which wouldn't explain that either however: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos....no/janirozsa/

When the block is removed everything is working fine, I've tested it. And I have a blocking cookie "installed" in my Firefox browser.
When I add my IP-address to be blocked everything just stops working. (Why are there two ways to prevent myself from giving hits to the counter anyway?) Oh, and any tips on the validation issues, can't seem to solve them... |

This is depricated in the way you use it: <td background="Bilder/bg_left_ny.jpg"> If you want a page to validate, all styling must be set by stylesheet (CSS). In this case you could have a class with the values for the background image and style the td with <td class="classname">. You can also use an inline styling: <td style="background-image:bg-left-ny.jpg"> About the missing ALT in the image tag, it seems like you just miss that on one image? So it's easy to correct it, do as you have done for the other images, add a blank alt (alt="") for "051122.jpg" if you don't want to have any text there. But for the header image (start.jpg ?) you really should have someting, e.g. the text that is on the image. In case the images don't download for some reason, there will be nothing for the visitor to see if you don't have a alt text.

You were trying to block your hits from being recorded. Blocking cookie (if your browser truly allowed it and didn't delete it) or blocking by IP - either and both would result in your hits being blocked. Yours, not other visitor's hits to your web pages. If the blockign cookie didn't block you that means your browser didn't actually allow the cookie to be installed.
If you don't see any other hits, then you didn't get any visitors other than yourself. By now you should have seen at least Arne's hits.

Hey, I don't make much sense in my previous posts do I? I see that now
Well, everything's working fine now. I only have a blocking cookie installed. I have not entered any IP-adress to be blocked in my settings, because when I do that I totally stop getting hits, when I should get hits from other computers than my own (I have another computer in a LAN that I test with). So why does the counter stop working when I enter my IP-adress in the settings? Just one IP-address' block shouldn't stop the whole thing from registering hits... And Arne: Thanks for the tip! That's what I love with web design, there's always something new to learn! Last edited by celsior; 11-22-2005 at 10:48 PM. |

Usually all the computers on a LAN share the same external IP address. So that's entirey normal that by blocking that IP, the hits from all the computers on that IP will not be recorded.
This is what you should maybe use the blocking cookie on those computers where you want to block your hits from being recorded, and remove the IP block.

Ok, thanks for the help... I just got a little suspicious when I hadn't received any hits for several days... Guess there never were anyone on my site those few days!
