Default PHP ( and other stuff )

Hi all

If someone else has already posted this then my excuse is sleep deprivation

I found this while blundering around 'net - http://www.mpsoftware.dk/phpdesigner.php

Haven't played with it much as yet, but it does look rather good.

I've got phpdesigner 2005 installed. I've used it a bit, but never really switched over from editplus 2. I suspect it's because there's a learning curve involved.

I use DreamWeaver MX. I find it's pretty good for php as well as html.

I use a free piece of Software called something like 'TGS WeCoder Pro'. Can't remember off the top of my head :P

It doesn't render PHP from the off, but as I use HTML pages which I force my server to parse as PHP that's not too much of a problem for me.

Nothing can render php on your pc unless you have Apache and php installed and then view the pages from localhost. (Unless I am much mistaken and the php specific editors can do it, but I've not seen that myself yet).

A good php editor should at least render the html portions of your php script. DW MX does that.

For those with a highly polished ineptitude ( like me ) PHP designer has a good reference for PHP, CSS2, HTML and SQL under "Toll Panels" - "Libraries"

I've been using that very thing for several months now and it's been a godsend. I am considering upgrading it - but I'll have to go to a different product since phpdev seems to have died. The replacement would be XAMPP from http://www.apachefriends.org/en/index.html . I have been hesitant to try it as I am not quite sure how I should proceed: uninstall everything I got from phpdev (Apache, php & MySql) before? or install into a different folder?

The phpdev installation works fine. I'd be heartbroken if XAMPP didn't install as easily and well. But phpdev is oldish, I need to move up to php 5 soon (before June) and also to a higher version of Apache and MySql to properly emulate my server environment and test my applications before I run into trouble come June when we move to php 5.
