Default alt tags

One of my pages was hit following a misspelt search for "Bristish Grand Prix". I was rated rather highly which surprised me until I spotted the typo. I could see from the description in the search results that the typo was also on my page. I opened the page to fix it but couldn't find the error in the text any where. I finally used 'find' to locate it and was most surprised to discover it was in an alt tag. I've never been absolutely clear as to whether alts get indexed ... but now I am. Not only are they indexed by they can be used in the serp snippet.

Default Alt Tag Question

Is it better to use a different tag that is related to the image or is it ok to just copy the actual name of the image?

Example: alt="Elephant Drawer Knob" for an image titled "Elephant Drawer Knob" vs. alt="Elephant Dresser Knobs" for the same image/title?

I would think a pertinent variation is better, but I need your concurrence.

The image file name may or may not be relevant, but what you put in the image alt field should describe the image.
I dont know what you call image title. The text you write on the page is not it, as far as a bot is concerned.

There is a title property similar to the alt property that can be used for images. Usually I use the same value in both.

Hiya CT, yes a pertinent alt is preferred, eg. <img src="china tea.jpg" alt="china tea" ......> is ok but <img src="china tea.jpg" alt="pic of me".....> would be better.
This assumes you have introduced yourself as China Tea somewhere in the preceding text, if not alt="pic of China Tea" would be more appropriate.

Default Oh, okay

Thanks BrisgGuy and Christina . . .

What about the caption that comes after the image? Like

<img src="china tea.jpg" alt="China Tea".....><br>China Tea

Is the one below better?

<img src="china tea.jpg" alt="pic of China Tea".....><br>China Tea

Thanks!

Hello Rotary,

Accordingly, search engines likewise see them too . . .

Default Hi CT

Learning curve growin' gonna climb it.

How's the kittie....?

My kitty is sittin' right now, whoop's she's decided to nap. to bad I'll have to kick her out of her nappin' place soon. She's right in the middle of my bed.

Ah, for the title addition to an img tag, I've seen it before and am interested in its benefits.

Tks!!
