Hi -
I keep getting hits on just one of my pages repeatedly from the same hostname. It is always the same page that is hit repeatedly and never anything else on my website. This has been going on for many months, pretty much daily. Any ideas? Here's what it looks like: (Melitacable) Malta, 33 returning visits Date Time WebPage 17th November 2006 12:23:59 www.jenniferyoung.com/provence-paintings5.htm No referring link 17th November 2006 15:40:36 www.jenniferyoung.com/provence-paintings5.htm No referring link 17th November 2006 15:41:04 www.jenniferyoung.com/provence-paintings5.htm No referring link |

Well, there's not much to do in Malta, so maybe someone's just randomly tapping the F5 key?

Well maybe somebody in Malta has set your page as their homepage. Have you thought of that? They may have liked it so much

If it is javascript enabled it is not a bot. If not, you can't tell as it could be a robot (needs to be an image enabled bot or it wouldn't register at all) or an actual user with javascript turned off.

Hi, I use the counter. Haven't had any problems as stated here. I display my art work on my site, soon to begin a business selling my art and for others. http://mungiako.com

Absolutely it's a robot. Not just any robot, but the Yahoo robot.

If you want to prevent robots from visiting your site or parts of it you can use a robots.txt file to give directives to robots.
Only "good" robots obey those, usually major search engine robots. There are many robots that don't. The yahoo robot is a good robot. But be warned that this would mean your site or parts of it end up being dropped from search engines. The robots that get detected are those image enabled robots, some of them may be out to build image indexes for their search engines. If your concern is to simply not see those hits rather than totlaly blocking the robots themselves, all you need to do is remove the <noscript> ...</noscript> portion of the Statcounter code. Then no javascript disabled visitors will get detected. Personally I would not block robots that way. If I found rogue robots I may block their ip address (because they don't read and obey robots.txt anyway). The yahoo robots is not bad at all.
