Default Take a look, please???

Just added statcounter to a new site. I'd be grateful for any opinions, and for a bit of traffic to show the owner how it all works!

Thanks guys.

I personally liked the site. I was reading along and it took me a while to realise that it was a book that was being sold, maybe i'm just dense though .

All the best.
Michael.

Howdy,

In the gallery, change the title and / or alt text from DSC_... to something better

Otherwise it looks very good

Default Love your gallery

I love the gallery design. . .

I like the site's straightforwardness. I don't think there's any thing to have to change from a standard visitor's perspective.

The alt text is very important, but so are also the image file names, they'd be more useful if they were meaningful too, just like page names of course, and even css classes and id's.

Personally, i'd split the large amount of text on the front page up. People don't read the internet, they skim it.

A lot of people won't read through a long page of text. If you "chunk" the information by putting in sub-headings they can jump about the page at will. Another trick is to put your conclusion at the start, and let people who want more dig in further through a link. The way you've done it for the excerpts is great, I think that approach would work well on the front page, too.

I'd put things like the "about the author" much higher up, too. People are interested in that kind of thing. The way you've put the quote high up is good though. It's good to establish authority straight away.

On the techy side, have you considered using css? A lot of your html could be chopped, and your rollover effects could be done without javascript (which lots of people have turned off) A site like that would only require a tiny stylesheet, making the all-important first pageload really fast.

Otherwise, nice site!

Move all javascripts into separate js files and include them that way.

This not only slims down the pages, but also prevents robots from trying uselessly to parse javascript code, and maybe get stuck in it.

Nice site, although it takes a while to figure out that you are selling a book.
